Ministry of Environment and Water's Innovation Executive Committee develops its strategic plan

Dubai – August 5, 2015: The Ministry of Environment and Water’s Innovation Executive Committee held its first meeting recently at the Ministry’s headquarters in Dubai to discuss the committee’s strategy and implementation plan for 2015 to 2016. The Committee was established by Ministerial Decree No. 184 for the year 2015 forming the Innovation Executive Committee under the slogan "Eureka". The Committee is tasked with promoting innovation in all projects and environmental initiatives launched by the Ministry in line with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi and President of the UAE, and the 2015 declaration of state for the implementation of UAE Vision 2021.
The Committee will promote and support the Ministry’s organizational units in its efforts to meet its innovation objectives. It will also be working in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation (MBRCGI) in order to develop pioneering sustainable environmental solutions through integrated key programs that can positively contribute towards the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Environment and Water.
The Committee is working tirelessly towards implementing groundbreaking programs and initiatives across environmental fields in line with the green framework and objectives of the National Agenda. The progress will be monitored and evaluated through advanced technological tools in accordance with the innovation strategy adopted by the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Water that included Eng. Essa Al Hashmi, Chief Innovation Officer and Chairman of the Innovation Executive Committee; Eng. Ghareeb Obaid Al Mutawwa, Director of the Central Region Department and Vice Chairman of the Committee; Eng.
Ahmed Al Hashmi, Director of the Biodiversity Department; Eng. Othaibah Saeed AlQaydi, Director of the Chemicals Department; Hessa Saeed Sulaiman, Director of the Human Resources Department; Eng. Somaya

The Ministry of Environment and Water also recently held a meeting to discuss its affiliates’ latest updates on the Expert Innovation Diploma Program. The innovation team reviewed a number of projects and initiatives developed for the purpose of ensuring a sustainable environment and creating a fully integrated infrastructure. This includes a Smart Systems project proposal that will track marine resources using a comprehensive control system designed to ensure the safety and sustainability of marine life and the marine environment by monitoring fishermen and their practices, which will greatly benefit the fishing community in terms of cost and time.
The panel also reviewed the Frijna Project proposal for an electronic system that will evaluate local and federal government services through an open system. This system will be accessible for all community members who will also be entitled to submit proposals and ideas that can contribute to the enhancement of society’s quality of life. The project aims to cultivate citizens’ involvement in programs that serve the government’s strategic objectives in line with the UAE's strategy for green development, which aims to effectively create smart applications and services for addressing the country’s demands in its efforts to establish smart cities.
