Rehan Khan educated students at Horizon International School in the art of crafting a novel
June, 2015 – Dubai, UAE: Dubai-based Author Rehan Khan continued his creative writing masterclass sessions with UAE schools, with a visit to Horizon International School in Dubai. In the class he spoke to the students about his own personal insights, tips and techniques on creating a novel.
Rehan, the Author of the fictional fantasy ‘Last of the Tasburai’, highlighted to year 8 pupils the key areas of designing a novel that must be considered even before they start writing. These included the setting of the story, creating multi-layered characters and planning where the plot will take the reader.
The writer then went on to inspire students with his own personal experiences of putting pen to paper at the early age of nine. He expressed his passion for stories of heroism and valour that he loved listening to throughout his childhood, and how they had inspired him to pen his debut novel, ‘Last of the Tasburai’.
The masterclass is one of many Rehan has given following the release of his first novel. As well as visiting local schools, Rehan has also educated students in London schools with his inspirational message. In order to reach a wider audience, Rehan offers a tailored version of the class for adults, and recently gave a talk to a group of budding adult novelists at the Dubai International Writers Centre.
“It is important to me to be able to share my own creative writing experiences and insights that I have learnt along the way, and the masterclass sessions are the perfect platform to do this,” said Rehan. “I believe it is essential to encourage and nurture creativity in young writers today from a grassroots level. I discovered my own love of writing at an early age and through ongoing support and self-motivation I was able to achieve my dream of releasing my own novel. The school visits allow me to teach to students that anything is possible with the right guidance and mindset.”
Rehan has a strong background and many years’ experience in the education sector, as in addition to being an Author Rehan is also a Professor of Management at HULT International Business School, as well as being a Regional Consulting Director for a FTSE 100 corporation. In his spare time has featured as a columnist in some of the UAE’s local newspapers.
Rehan Khan’s debut novel Last of the Tasburai is available to buy now on Amazon and in Kinokuniya, Dubai Mall, priced at AED60.
