Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 14 May, 2015: The expansion of the emergency department at Dubai Hospital, almost a year ago, has enhanced care provided to patients who need immediate medical attention, said a top health official.
In 2013, approximately 112464 patients visited Dubai Hospital’s ER and in 2014, approximately 125923 patients visited the ER. The expansion of the ER took place in June 2014.
Dr Abdulrehman Al Jassmi, CEO of Dubai Hospital said, “The benefits of the expansion include enhanced capacity and patient care, reduced waiting time as well as more privacy for patients at the hospital. The expansion was undertaken in line with DHA’s strategy and we are identifying other services that need to be expanded as well.”
The expansion has increased the bed capacity from 25 to 56 beds. Previously there was one emergency department for male, female and paediatric patients. Now, with the expansion, the department has been divided it into two sections-Emergency A which is for male patients and Emergency B- which is for female and paediatric patients. Three beds are dedicated for heart resuscitation. In addition to this, a dedicated area with four beds has been designed for gynaecological emergencies. The department also has four beds dedicated for infectious cases.
Al Jassmi said on a daily basis 350 to 400 patients are seen at the hospital’s emergency department.
The unit has 110 nurses and 36 doctors of which 15 are specialised in paediatric emergencies.
