Dubai Customs spearheads innovation across the Arab World in 2015

Dubai 04-05-2015: Dubai Customs has scooped three main accolades at the Ideas Arabia 10th International Conference & Competition 2015 in Dubai. The two-day event was held at Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach on April 29th, 2015, and was attended by delegates, business leaders, industry experts and professionals who discussed the Suggestion and Rewarding Scheme, or SRS, from around the world.

Idea of the Year 2015, Best Suggestion Model and Best Suggestion Programme Administrator were awarded to Dubai Customs.

In appreciation of Dubai Customs’ steadfast efforts to the conference as well as scoring three of the main awards, H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs handed out the awards to winning private and public entities at the awarding ceremony that was held on the side-lines of the conference.

The Idea of the Year 2015 is the highest accolade in the area of suggestions across the Arab World. It recognizes the most significant ideas implemented throughout the calendar year (2014). Dubai Customs was awarded the Idea of the Year 2015for the Smart Customs Audit System; the first-of-its-kind in the world. The system fulfils the criteria and prerequisites of the WCO and can be cascaded into similar contexts whether in Customs administrations or elsewhere worldwide.

Dubai Customs’ Suggestions System scored 93.5% employees and clients satisfaction in Q1 2015.

H.E. Sultan bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation, congratulated Dubai Customs’ leadership and dedicated cadres for this outstanding achievement.

He said, “ Scooping high-end awards of innovation affirms that we are on the right path, as per the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for innovation to become a “government habit, a daily practice and a solid society culture”. Bin Sulayem further noted, “ This deserved achievement adds up to the DC’s decorated track record of accreditations and breakthroughs. Dubai Customs has always been in the pioneering lines as a role model for Customs administrations around the globe. “

Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs expressed his appreciation for Bin Sulayem’s direct and sustained support to DC’s pursuance of excellence and its endeavours towards actuating the vision and directives of the wise leadership; by catering the optimal environment of innovation and creativity to the workplace .

“Our employees suggestions have had a noticeable positive impact on DC’s financial performance. Accumulated revenues and cost savings incurred by employee and customer suggestions implementation - since the system’s inception - have approached AED 1 billion, following the realization and enactment of 1,364 suggestions, “ Musabih said.  

“The three awards add to awards and accolades Dubai Customs picked up in the last few years, which amount to 38 awards in innovation and creativity. They are also a regional recognition of DC employees creations in 2014,” Hussain Al Fardan, Manager of the Suggestions Section at Dubai Customs, said.
