Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 12 April, 2015: Dubai Hospital's expanded catherization laboratory has significantly increased the capacity for treating  patients with need cardiac catherization.

The expansion was possible due to AED 5 million donation by Al Rustamani Group.

The cardiac catheterization laboratory is where cardiologists can diagnose and treat heart conditions using catheters instead of surgery. Many different procedures can be safely done in the catheterization lab instead of an operating room.

HE Engineer Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority recently inspected the catherization laboratory and said: “We are very thankful to the contribution we have received from Al Rustamani group. The new suite contains latest state-of-the-art technology in imaging and diagnostics and provides physicians access to leading-edge equipment. The expansion will help the hospital serve a larger number of patients who need these services.”

Dr Jasem Al Hashmi,  Acting Head of Cardiology at Dubai Hospital, said: “The expansion of the cath lab was completed in the beginning of 2014 and since then, we have been able to provide our services to a larger number of patients who require these services.”

Dubai Hospital is well renowned for its excellence in all types of cardiac procedures and performs a high-volume of catherization procedures.

Al Hashmi said that in 2013, the hospital carried out 1800  cardiac catherization procedures and in 2014, after the expansion of the cath lab, the hospital performed 2300 procedures which is an increase of almost 22 per cent.

Dr Talib Majwal, Consultant, Interventional Cardiology and head of Interventional Cardiology, Dubai Heart Centre at Dubai Hospital, said: “The cath lab has several of the most advanced systems in place which provides better estimation of blockages. The state-of-the-art imaging system helps physicians clearly see the blood vessels and anatomy of the heart.”

Majwal said the hospital carries out several procedures including coronary angioplasty, pace maker implantation, aortic valve replacement, paediatric cardiac intervention etc. in the cath lab.
