Ministry of Economy Hosts First Meeting of Government Economic Communication Network

Network Ushers in New Era of National Economic Cooperation

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 30 March, 2014 – His Excellency Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, met with the members of the Government Economic Communication Network (GECN) that includes representatives from the Ministry of Economy and departments of economic development from the seven emirates at the GECN’s inaugural meeting that was hosted by the Ministry of Economy in Abu Dhabi.  

The GECN was established to further strengthen ties among communication departments of economic entities on a national level and to boost cooperation among them in terms of strategic planning and coordination. The network aims to enhance communication in specific areas through sharing information, data, reports, and strategic planning solutions.

The GECN is set to coordinate economic activities and agendas on a national level and consolidate efforts in promoting local and national economic activities. In addition, GECN also serves as a platform for sharing experiences and best practices in the field of communications related to economic sectors and activities.
The inaugural meeting of the network discussed coordinating economic programs and activities across divisions and departments by creating a unified mega agenda. This would help streamline events and avoid possible clashes of dates.

The meeting also outlined steps needed to achieve this integration, in addition to charting out tasks and implementation mechanisms. GECN members agreed to collate a formal regulatory bylaws list detailing the duties and responsibilities of different stakeholders that would be submitted to the Ministry of Economy and departments of economic development for their approval prior to being implemented.

Members also exchanged information related to specific events within their departments, the nature of these events, target audiences for each, as well as strategies and plans for the implementation of the events.  

Tareq Al Marzouqi, Director, Government Communications Department at the Ministry of Economy, said: “The GECN ushers in a new era of national economic cooperation among various departments of the Ministry of Economy and economic divisions across the UAE. We are confident that collaboration among all concerned stakeholders will help develop a streamlined approach and step-up communication among member entities. We look forward to working with communication departments across the board to achieve better results on the local and federal levels.”
