Valentine’s Day is coming and why not do something different for yourself? Join James & Alex Dance Studios for a ladies only Valentine’s Burlesque class. Learn a glamorous, flirty and fun burlesque routine, which will help you get in touch with your sensual self. No experience is necessary. You will have a fabulous workout while learning the art of struts, kicks, shimmies and shakes! James & Alex provide the action while you provide the attitude. Have a significant other? He will certainly appreciate what you learn and your abdominal muscles will thank YOU!

Here are 5 tips to help get you started:

Make An Entrance - Walk into a room with a confident stride, taking your time. Always touch your foot forward instead of stepping forward on your last step. When you keep your weight on your back foot it makes your hip curve beautifully, and helps you keep your balance and look sure of yourself.

Delay Eye Contact - When you walk into a room where you know your partner is, don't look at him right away. Look into a mirror in the room, or take a compact from your purse and look into it, and then give yourself a little smile of satisfaction. That will convey irresistible confidence when you make eye contact immediately after.

Sparkle - Wear something that sparkles or glitters. In burlesque, tons of sparkles are used to mesmerize the entire room; wear just enough sparkle to enchant — earrings or a bit of glitter around the eyes are all you need to be hypnotic up close.

Use Your Hands - Burlesque performers use their hands to guide the audience's eyes where they want them to look. You can easily do the same. Start by resting your hand near your eyes, then move it down close to your lips, your collarbone and your shoulder — all sexy areas when presented as touchable!

Watch The Makeup - Take the time to learn how to do quality make-up. On stage performers want make-up the audience can see from the back of the room, but up close and personal, you'll want to keep it fairly clean.

The Burlesque classes at James & Alex Dance Studios take place on Saturdays at 7.30pm and are taught by Lucy Alderman.  Classes cost AED 65 or a package of 12 hours can be purchased for AED 720, which can also be combined with ballet, contemporary, hip hop and tap classes.
