Last Update: Wednesday, January 7, 2015 : 18:32 (+4GMT)
• 41 year old Midamar Corporation has extended an open invitation to Islamic scholars, designated community leaders and official auditors in the USA, Asia and Middle East to witness the company’s food process for Halal compliance.
• Recent news reports falsely claim that the company sold millions of dollars in meat to the GCC countries, which allegedly did not follow Halal practices.
• Company directors do not accept these allegations that have been made without fully considering the context and diversity of Halal market.
(Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA: 7 January 2015) - Midamar is a Halal food company that has been verified by Halal auditors the world over for 40 years. Midamar is a trusted Halal brand that has earned a solid reputation for Halal integrity. The company is recognized as a Halal food industry pioneer in the USA.
Recent news reports falsely claim that the company sold millions of dollars in meat to the GCC countries which allegedly did not follow Halal practices as promised in its labeling and advertising. These allegations are simply incorrect and have been made without fully considering the context and diversity of the Halal market. Midamar is a Halal food company in its essence and practice. As such the company’s directors do not accept these allegations and are seeking to understand what they are based on.
In 2010, there was a USDA administrative infraction regarding facility numbers that were incorrect for product destined to SE Asia, not to the Middle East or GCC as reported in the media. This infraction was never a Halal issue. The product exported was verified as Halal. It was an exporting issue involving facility numbers. Since 2010 Midamar has been fully compliant with USDA export regulations. Now this 2010 administrative labeling infraction is being misconstrued and sensationalized by the media as a deliberate attempt by the company to commit Halal fraud.
It would be irrational, immoral, and counterproductive for a company like Midamar, which only produces Halal food for sale in the USA and for export, to decide to produce and sell non Halal food to Halal consumers. This is an industry where companies must guard the Halal integrity of their brand, thereby earning the trust and confidence of Halal consumers. Midamar has been aware of this fact and has acted accordingly for 40 years.
Midamar has extended an open invitation to Islamic scholars and designated community leaders in the USA, Asia, Middle East, and GCC countries. Official auditors and community leaders are invited to visit Halal facilities in the USA and witness Midamar processes for themselves. Midamar will engage in discussion on the true nature of the USA Halal industry, its practices, challenges and opportunities.
The Halal consumer is concerned about the permissibility of the food they eat. Midamar wants to assure all consumers that while the Halal food industry and scholars may not agree on all aspects of Halal definitions, Midamar is among the minority in the USA that remains clear about its Halal practices and thus seeks to dispel the suspicions and rumors that have surfaced over the past week.
