Dubai-UAE: 30 June, 2014 – Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis, the integrated free zone technology park, today pledged AED2 million to the UAE Water Aid Initiative "UAE Suqia" .
Launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the campaign aims to provide clean water to five million people worldwide. The initiative will be implemented through the digging of wells and facilitating the provision of water pumps and water purification equipment to needy areas. The campaign took off on the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan on 29 June.
Dr. Mohammed Alzarooni, Vice Chairman & CEO of DSOA, said: “Under the guidance of our wise leadership, the UAE is widely regarded as the capital of humanitarian initiatives. We are, therefore, overjoyed to be part of this important philanthropic initiative under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum".
“Water is a blessing and one of the greatest gifts that we can give. At DSOA, we are grateful to have the resources to support such an ambitious campaign. We are thankful that our contribution will help communities that are in urgent need of our compassion and assistance.”
DSOA’s donation is in line with its social responsibility strategy, which pays particular attention to the environment, society, and human resourcing both within and beyond the UAE.
According to recent figures published by the World Health Organization, more than 3.4 million people die each year of water-related diseases. Since its launch on the first day of Ramadan, the Suqia campaign has already achieved record donations and contributions totaling AED60.2 million.
A wholly-owned entity of the Dubai government, Dubai Silicon Oasis operates as a free zone technology park for the semiconductor, microelectronics and other high technology-based companies looking to set up their regional headquarters and research and development facilities in the Middle East and Africa region.
