Ministry of Economy Hosts Governor of Massachusetts at Business Luncheon

Delegation Identifies Areas for Further Co-operation
Dubai-UAE: 08 June, 2014 – The Ministry of Economy hosted last week a business luncheon for a visiting US trade delegation led by Deval Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts. Abdullah Al Saleh, Undersecretary for Foreign Trade Affairs, UAE Ministry of Economy, received the delegation that included government officials and businessmen from varied economic sectors such as trade, energy, renewable energy, science and technology.
The UAE delegation included officials from the Ministry of Economy, Emirates Competitiveness Council, Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, Khalifa Fund, Khalifa University, Dubai Internet City, ICT Fund, Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee and Abu Dhabi Media Zone Authority (Twofour54).
During the meeting, the two sides discussed economic, trade and investment cooperation. Abdullah Al Saleh commended the friendly relations between the UAE and the US stating that the open policies followed by the two countries have facilitated mutually beneficial partnerships in diverse sectors.
Addressing the delegation, Al Saleh said: “We seek to forge partnerships that allow us to attract globally renowned centers and talents in sectors such as education, intellectual property, technology and health. We institute legislations that facilitate innovation and technology towards ensuring sustained economic development. Additionally, our efforts to initiate dialogue with global thought leaders arise from our conviction on the pivotal role of education and research in building human capital.”
For his part, the Governor of Massachusetts commended the economic development of the UAE and the government’s strategy that seeks to develop a knowledge-based economy. Governor Patrick highlighted that the visit comes as part of efforts to pave the way for further economic cooperation between the state of Massachusetts and the UAE in innovation-based sectors.
