[UAE, April 28, 2014] - The Department of Dubai Smart Government (DSG) recently received 27 high ranking government officials and executives from Sudan. The delegation visited DSG’s office to learn more about the department’s e-Transformation campaign and pioneering Smart Government initiatives that were launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The delegation was welcomed by H.E. Ahmad Bin Humaidan, DSG’s Director General; Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Director - Planning & Development; and other department directors and managers. H.E. Bin Humaidan commented: “The visit of the high-level delegation from Sudan aims to familiarize them with Dubai’s e-Transformation experience and best international practices being successfully implemented by DSG for more than 13 years now. DSG’s initiatives will help Dubai to efficiently and seamlessly transform into a smart city.”
“We welcome the Sudanese government delegation and reaffirm our readiness and pleasure to share our expertise with them. We will do our best to make their visit valuable as we remain steadfast on our commitment to share our knowledge and experience with our fellow Arab brothers as directed by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,” Bin Humaidan added.
During the visit, the Sudanese officials watched a short-film documentary on Dubai’s journey from the e-Transformation project in 2000 to smart government initiatives launched in May 2013. The documentary highlighted Dubai’s major achievements during the transformation and implementation of Dubai government’s vision.
Sumaia Bin Hammad, Director of DSG’s Communication and Business Development (CBD), gave a brief review about the details of Dubai’s ongoing e-Transformation project, focusing on smart government endeavours and Dubai’s vision to become a knowledge-based city and a leading hub for
modern economy. Bin Hammad said the transformation was accomplished through electronic integration amongst Dubai government entities in which DSG provided the necessary infrastructure.
The delegation was briefed on DSG’s Government Resource Planning (GRP). The briefing focused on the process of unifying procedures amongst Dubai government entities in 2002 to reach a total of 46 government entities today. The GRP systems are composed of 25 streams that are provided by DSG to cover their operations and management of human resources and assets via 60 integrations with these entities.
The concept of DSG’s shared services to all government entities was also presented. DSG’s support is part of its commitment to achieve integration and offer innovative services to the public, including ePay, mPay, business intelligence systems, e-Complaint, and e-Suggestion. As for infrastructure management, the delegation also learned about the most important DSG services including the Government Information Network (GIN) covering 46 government entities, Shared Disaster Recovery Site (SDRS), technical support services, and e-hosting of 25 Dubai Government websites.
The delegation was also introduced to DSG’s experience and role in defining the standards of electronic and smart transformation, while discussing the procedures for assessing the quality of these sites and the e-services offered by government entities to users. The Sudanese officials then watched a presentation by Ahmad Saad, IT Advisor at Abu Dhabi Zakat Fund, about the organization’s experience in using technology to meet customer needs. The presentation focused on some of the key smart services that the Fund offers and the innovative channels provided to deliver its services.
Members of the Sudanese delegation commended the DSG officials for their hospitality and for their efforts to provide them with extensive information about DSG’s journey. They also lauded the high-level capabilities and expertise of DSG as they wished the department more success.
After the visit to DSG, the Sudanese delegation will also pay a visit to various government bodies during its three-day stay in Dubai. These include Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai Municipality, Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), and Dubai Courts.
