DUBAI-March 26, 2014: Bahri & Mazroei Technical Systems (BMTS), an entity of the Bahri & Mazroei Group - the leading solutions provider in the Gulf catering to building and infra-development segments, has been shortlisted for the coveted global DALI Application Award 2014. The award selection for BMTS is in recognition of its innovative sun-tracking and integrated light management system implemented at the 382 metre-high World Trade Centre Development (WTCD) project, the re-development of Abu Dhabi’s Central Market.
BMTS is one of the first companies in the Gulf region to be shortlisted for the prestigious international DALI Award. The company ‘led by innovation’ in the region’s lighting solutions industry by installing the Middle East’s largest-of-its-kind innovative lighting system at the Central Market. The project aimed to harvest solar energy and maximize the use of natural light within the infrastructure. Winners of the DALI award will be announced at Light+Building - the world's largest trade fair for lighting and building solutions- to be held on April 2, 2014 in Messe Frankfurt, Germany.
Commenting on being in line for the prestigious global recognition, Mr. Esam R. Al Mazroei- Managing Director of the Bahri & Mazroei Group, said, “We are delighted to be shortlisted for the DALI Award, which echoes the Group’s position as the market leader in the businesses it involved in. Every project has its own unique requirements and challenges in terms of providing the lighting solutions. At the WTCD project, the requirement was to control and monitor the lamp burning hours for the individual lamps through a DALI protocol.”
“The UAE has in recent years drawn attention for its innovative renewable energy building projects. Integrating various value-added systems is the future of the construction and infra-development segments in the region,” he added.
BMTS is the market leader in the UAE in providing a wide range of high-quality value-added technical solutions with engineering, integration and maintenance services to technically-superior buildings and infrastructure. Its sister entity Bahri & Mazroei Trading Company (BMTC) is the trading arm of the Group catering to the construction sector with solutions in the areas of electrical, lighting and water systems. Telematics is the third component within the Group and is a leader in ICT solutions.
The BMTS system for WTCD will have different lighting scenes inside and outside the building, in addition to the installation of the sun-tracking program with the integrated lighting control system which will allow maximum natural light inside the building to save energy. Using this method, the building requires less artificial lighting and saves around 20 to 25 per cent in terms of electricity consumption.
“BMTS has undertaken a multitude of successful projects in the field of light management in the Gulf region. We partner with a host of world-renowned brands and bring to the table quality products, solutions and services. Our commitment to quality, reliability and safety reflects that we are regularly chosen as a preferred system integrator by the region’s biggest contractors. The Bahri and Mazroei Group is a one-stop-shop for a range of value-added solutions for all categories of buildings and infrastructure development projects,” Mr. Al Mazroei further said.
BMTS has installed over 60,000 DALI points and over 36,000 DALI Light Fittings and more than 5,000 Blind motors on this project. BMTS, in partnership with Helvar, developed an algorithm that would provide data on sun movement across the building every day. This data was used by Helvar routers to control the building blinds. So that the lights are automatically dimmed or their intensity increased to match user requirements. A new set of software was also developed to get the required inter-mediate positions to achieve the sun-tracking system.
