Iconic singer Magida El Roumi confirmed to perform at Dubai Classics

Arabic legend to close inaugural classical music festival at Dubai World Trade Centre on February 8, 2014

Dubai, UAE - 14 January, 2014 - Lebanese soprano and international icon, Magida El Roumi, will enchant audiences during the final night of Dubai Classics on February 8, 2014 at DWTC. Organised by DXB Live, the performance will see the globally acclaimed soprano singing a variety of her award-winning melodies, including new material from her latest, critically-acclaimed album, Ghazal.

The inaugural Dubai Classics will take place from February 6-8 and will also welcome another soprano maestro, Sarah Brightman. The event is designed to cater to the growing demand for classical entertainment in the UAE, delighting established fans and introducing a new generation of listeners to some of the industry's most talented stars.

El Roumi's performance marks the 40th year of her illustrious career, which has seen her release 14 celebrated albums. Her latest, Ghazal, contains 14 tracks, eight of which were written by El Roumi herself. The album also features a hit song incorporating the words of one of the Arab world's greatest poets, Nizar Qabbani, in addition to collaboration with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, allowing El Roumi to combine aspects of classical Western music with her unique Oriental style.

Magida El Roumi first made headlines when she won the top prize on the hit talent programme, Studio El Fan, at only 16 years of age. In the years that followed, she collaborated with the industry's leading musicians and composers to produce hits such as “Kalimat”, “Ya Beirut” and “Matrahak Bi Albi”. She was appointed as a UN Goodwill Ambassador in 2001, travelling across Lebanon, Jordan and Morocco to spread awareness of the challenges for families in the region.

Dubai Classics will run from February 6-8 and will host two evening performances by Sarah Brightman on February 6 and 7, and an evening performance by Magida El Roumi on February 8.
