Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 28th October, 2013 – With Boehringer Ingelheim's ongoing commitment to research and provide first class education to veterinarians in the area of animal health and share insights around equine diseases, the leading pharmaceutical Company conducted the 5th Continuing Education Seminar on ‘Equine performance in extreme conditions'.
The discussion highlighted challenges and remedies of horses performing in high temperatures and humidity. Horses have a relatively low heat dispersion system and so performing in those conditions poses challenges for the veterinarians. These challenges are both on safeguarding the animal welfare as well as setting the athlete in the best possible condition to win the race. Over 100 horse veterinarians and horse professionals attended the seminar.
Dr. Mohammed Hussein, Business Unit Manager for the Equine Range at Boehringer Ingelheim, MENA said that, “Transfer of knowledge and know-how to vets is an essential part of our BI AH concept in the MENA Region and has been successfully implemented in the equine business. As the equine vet community in the Gulf Region is focusing on high quality horses which participate in flat races and endurance competitions not only in the region but also abroad, the vets are very eager in Keeping their knowledge up to date in the health management of the high performance equine athletes. After the implementation of the Continued Education (CE) Seminars for equine vets in Dubai in 2010 four events have been realized and the veterinary community in the region is always waiting for next BI events to come. Vets appreciate the scientific information, treatment advices as well as the opportunity to see each other, to network and to discuss.”
Dr. Roberto Ragni-Alunni, Marketing and Technical Manager for the Equine Range at Boehringer Ingelheim, MENA, said, “As a global leader in the research, development and marketing of innovative vaccine and pharmaceutical products for the animal health industry, we know the critical role veterinarians play in maintaining the health and vitality of horses. And we know the importance those horses play in the lives of their owners. This is why we remain dedicated to providing technologically advanced products and first class education to horse veterinarians in the region”
Dr Pablo Trigo graduated from La Plata University in Argentina and obtained his PhD at Cordoba University in Spain, said, “I provided this seminar with a practical approach to provide tips that ultimately will benefit the performing horses to reach their athletic potential safely.”
In the MENA region, horses represent more than physical muscle; they symbolize values shared by community members as well: grace, endurance, friendship and gallantry. Horses therefore play an important role in the region, not only in sports but also as part of the family and are considered deeply valuable to their owners. To ensure the well-being of horses, Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health offers solutions to keep horses in the region healthy now and in the future.
