Manama: Bahrain Science Centre, a part of the Ministry of Social Development is displaying a new magnificent camel sculpture to educate and remind visitors of how marvelously camels are adapted for dry environments like the desert and their many uses.
The centre will demonstrate in detail to the visitor about the camel's benefits and provide information such as the fact that camels are larger than horses and have both speed and endurance. They can run at speeds of up 65 km/hr in short bursts and sustain a speed of 40 km/hr for long periods.
Visitors will learn that camels are also able to drink vast amounts of water in a short time – a 600 kg adult can drink 200 litres of water in three minutes. Even their kidneys and intestines are highly efficient at retaining water.
Facilitators at the centre will explain to visitors interesting facts on what camels eat and the conditions they live in that help them survive life in the desert.
The exhibit targets youngsters from all ages. Interested visitors can download the weekly programme on the website www.bahrainsciencecentre.com for more information.
