Maui Jim strengthens collection of sunglasses for people who love spending time on the water
Last Update: Sunday, September 22, 2013 : 13:00 (+4GMT)
Hours of squinting from the glare and UV rays from the sun can make it a long day on the water, whether you're fishing or floating. However, Maui Jim has an entire collection of sunglasses with patented polarized lens technology that eliminates glare and UV rays while making what you see more brilliant and colorful. Today, the company is adding a new style – Ikaika (Style #281, AED 1,152) – to its ON THE WATER Collection of 24 sunglasses that have special features and benefits for anyone who spends time on the oceans, lakes, rivers or streams.
Ikaika, like each of the styles in the ON THE WATER Collection, uses technologies that are designed to work with different face sizes and shapes to shield eyes when enjoying time on the water. Ikaika is perfect for larger faces with bigger lenses; wider temples that offer a snug fit; anti-corrosive, spring hinge hardware; oleophobic lens coatings to repel water and grease; and scratch-resistant properties. Ikaika is a saltwater friendly style with a contoured, aerodynamic shape has been updated with matte finishes and comes in two high-grade nylon frame colors: Matte Black Rubber or Matte Tortoise. Both options have a saddle-style fixed nose bridge with anti-slip embedded rubber nose pads for comfort and stability.
Unique to all Maui Jim sunglasses is patented PolarizedPlus2® lens technology that protects eyes from the sun's rays on both sides of each lens. This technology reduces 99.9 percent of harmful glare from any flat, smooth, or shiny surface. This technology increases definition and depth perception which makes it possible to see below the surface of water, an invaluable feature for boaters and anglers. Additionally, Maui Jim sunglasses cut 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays. Each style in the ON THE WATER Collection has unique, bi-gradient mirror technology that adds protection from light through the top and bottom of each lens – basically, Maui Jim sunglasses squint for you to reduce eye fatigue.
Ikaika has Maui Jim's SuperThin (ST) Glass lenses that are 20 percent thinner and lighter than conventional glass lenses. The lenses are digitally engineered to produce ultra-clear views without distortion. At Maui Jim, lens color is not merely a style feature. It is a functional feature. Maui Jim is the only company whose lenses have up to nine layers of advanced protection including color-enhancing components that produce noticeably truer, more vivid colors. Ikaika comes in two distortion-free lens colors to maximize performance in various light conditions. Neutral Grey lenses offer the maximum level of light reduction without color distortion for bright, sunny days. HCL® Bronze lenses have a versatile, warm brown tint suitable for any activity and designed to improve vision in variable light conditions.
Ikaika is available with MauiPassport® prescription lenses in powers from +3.00 to -4.50. This style has an eye size of 64 mm; bridge size of 18 mm; and temple length of 130 mm, as well as an 8-base curvature.
Maui Jim has been voted favorite sunglasses company and best sunglasses by optical retailers and many of the top health, fitness and outdoor sports media around the world. For more information, visit MauiJim.com or follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest at @OfficialMauiJim.
