Abu Dhabi, 18th Aug. 2013: The Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) has announced that work on the expansion and renovation of Al Wagan Hospital, which is located in the Eastern Region of Abu Dhabi, will commence in due course. This has been agreed after approval was granted by the Executive Committee of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. The expansion will enable residents of Al Wagan to have access to integrated, high-quality healthcare services and for the hospital to deliver the highest internationally recognised standards in healthcare.
 
This step forms a significant part of the plans of the Abu Dhabi Government to develop various areas of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Within these plans there is a particular focus on the development of infrastructure, along with the provision of services that meet the needs of the people residing within key identified areas.  The overall intention of the Abu Dhabi Government's plans is to keep pace with population growth and urbanisation in the Al Wagan region. The Government is keen to provide all means of comfort to people that reside in these areas, supplying them with essential facilities such as health centres, schools, marketplaces, mosques, and recreational areas.

SEHA will carry out a process of expansion and renovations at Al Wagan Hospital in order to ensure that its design is compliant with state-of-the-art design criteria on a par with global health facilities. The new building will also reduce maintenance costs and provide a number of administrative support services, including meeting rooms and parking lots.

By carrying out the renovation and expansion of Al Wagan Hospital, SEHA will be able to offer many more medical services, including Obstetrics and Gynaecology and dialysis, and will relieve the burden on the public of travelling to Al Ain city for treatment. This will help renal failure patients, as well as pregnant women who require Caesarean sections. The new hospital will provide upscale health services in line with the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.

The expansion and renovation work will include development of outbuildings such as the doctors' housing building, a new emergency department, renovation of the current outpatient clinics, and the construction and expansion of the main hospital.

In the course of the expansion and renovation of the healthcare facilities, many items and services will be added to the existing hospital including nine beds for resident patients increasing the total number of beds in the hospital to 24; four examination rooms in the specialist outpatient clinics so that the total number of examination rooms becomes 14; one operating theatre for Caesarean sections; two Labour-Delivery-Recovery rooms (LDR); one room for infectious cases for resident patients; one unit in the emergency room for quick examination and diagnosis four units in the emergency department, bringing the total number to 8 units; provision of a single computed tomography (CT) scan device; and five new units for dialysis services.

The hospital has been designed according to sustainability criteria which take into account the reduction of energy and water consumption, and which are also intended to make full use of the sun's rays. The design was produced in accordance with the latest international medical standards, which provide a better healing environment for the sick, and simultaneously takes into account both privacy and in empathetic to the traditions of the UAE. The hospital has also been designed to meet future healthcare needs allowing for the addition of new services to meet the needs of residents in the region.
