Last Update: Thursday, August 15, 2013 : 18:15 (+4GMT)
August 2013, UAE: Mafraq Hotel in Abu Dhabi, is proud to announce the certification of the Health Zone menu by the Abu Dhabi Health Authority and the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority in line with Weqaya standards.
The Weqaya service was launched by the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD) in order to help families in Abu Dhabi live healthier and more active lives. Weqaya is a screening programme that identifies cardiovascular risk factors and assists in improving the individual's health status. All adult (over 18 years) UAE Nationals living in Abu Dhabi are eligible for the screening every 3 years. The Weqaya programme provides users with health report cards, following their screenings, to help them identify any health risks and allows them access to resources to better their health conditions and live healthier lifestyles.
The Weqaya certification is awarded to hotels and outlets whose menus contribute towards a healthy diet. From the 20th of August, the Health Zone concept at Mafraq Hotel is offering guests food options packed with vitamins, minerals, and proteins. The menu includes salads, low fat steamed and grilled food, wholegrain bread sandwiches, minimum oils and fats, vitamin packed soups, fresh seasonal fruits and low fat yogurt shakes. The meals are low in fat, low in salt, high in fibre and always less than 750 calories per item.
“We are very proud to be one of the very few and select hotels to have the Weqaya logo on our Health Zone menus. This comes as an addition to our already existing sports and health facilities to ensure our guests find the outlets and services they require to remain active and healthy while staying with us,” says Mario Scotto, General Manager Mafraq Hotel Abu Dhabi.
The hotel will celebrate with an appreciation function that will take place at the property on the 21st of September 2013.
