Partnership with Dubai Sports Council sees the Manchester United legend brings elite fitness to the community to promote mental and physical wellbeing
DUBAI, UAE (06 May, 2026): England football icon and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has officially launched the "One Body" community sports initiative in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council (DSC). The high-energy event is set to take place at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel at 6:30 am on May 10 (Sunday).
A vision for inclusive fitness
The "One Body" initiative aims to democratize fitness across Dubai, encouraging all segments of society to prioritize health and happiness. The programme features free, open-to-all fitness sessions led by Rio Ferdinand and his wife, Kate Ferdinand, a prominent advocate for health and wellness. They will be joined by a cohort of global sporting stars in a vibrant, interactive community setting.
Dubai: A global hub for vitality
Speaking on the launch, Rio Ferdinand emphasized Dubai's unique position as a world-class destination for sustainable sports initiatives.
"This step confirms that Dubai is the ideal destination for those who love life," Ferdinand stated.
"It is a place that translates the happiness of its residents into tangible reality through sport and physical activity," he added.
Combating 'Sedentary Lifestyle'
Ferdinand highlighted the deeper purpose behind the movement: countering the mental and physical toll of modern office culture. "We aim to motivate the community to face the pressures of daily life and the rise of sedentary work habits. Sport is not just about physical fitness; it is a fundamental pillar for supporting mental health and increasing overall life satisfaction," he stressed.
'Sport for All' strategy
Essa Sharif, Director of the Sports Events Department at Dubai Sports Council, noted that the partnership aligns with the Council's long-term strategic goals. "This initiative keeps pace with our plan to promote community sports and transform physical activity into a daily habit for everyone, regardless of their athletic background," Sharif commented.
Direct engagement with global icons
Sharif further explained that allowing participation without prior registration reflects the inclusive nature of the project. By bringing world-class stars like Ferdinand directly to the public, the Council aims to prove that sport is accessible to everyone, not just professional athletes.
Sustainable community impact
The "One Body" initiative serves as a powerful tool for sustainable social connection. Building on this momentum, the Dubai Sports Council is expected to announce details for a third major training session scheduled for June 2026.
Balance of body and mind
Kate Ferdinand expressed her excitement to integrate the initiative with her ongoing work in the wellness space. Her platform focuses on achieving physical and psychological balance through movement. The first phase of the initiative has already seen a massive turnout, with participants from diverse nationalities and age groups engaging in intensive workouts led by the Ferdinands.
