Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Hosts Insightful Discussion of the Emotional Code of Children

Dubai, UAE, April 27, 2026: The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library organised the second session of its "Conscious Parenting" series, titled "The Emotional Code of Children," aimed at helping parents better understand children's behaviours. The session was led by coach Jocelyne Chidiac and focused on promoting modern, research-informed parenting approaches.
The session highlighted that a child's behaviour is often a form of communication, expressing emotions they may not yet have the words to articulate. Chidiac explained that children frequently rely on behaviour as a means of expression due to their limited linguistic abilities. As such, behaviours commonly perceived as hyperactivity, anxiety, or withdrawal may in fact reflect internal stress or a diminished sense of security.
She further clarified that children typically operate between two core emotional states: feeling safe and loved, or feeling overwhelmed and rejected. When a sense of safety is compromised, the body activates automatic defensive responses, commonly known as the four patterns: fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. These responses, she stressed, are instinctive survival mechanisms rather than signs of misbehaviour.
The session also explored developmental differences, explaining that children under the age of seven rely heavily on imagination and require consistent reassurance and emotional presence. In contrast, children aged 7 to 15 are more likely to experience fears related to social evaluation and fear of failure.
Practical tools were shared with parents, including breathing techniques and the "hand-touch" exercise, both designed to help regulate a child's nervous system and promote emotional calm. The session concluded by reinforcing that effective parenting goes beyond correcting behaviour, emphasising that parents' own emotional and psychological states have a direct impact on their children.
This session aligns with the "Year of Family" initiatives, highlighting the importance of supporting families and strengthening their role in raising psychologically and socially balanced generations.
Since its establishment, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has placed families at the heart of its mission, offering integrated educational programmes that empower parents and support the development of a conscious and cohesive society.
