Last Update: Tuesday, October 14, 2025 : 15:30 (+4GMT)
The event brought together patients, families, and healthcare experts for a day of education, wellness activities, and community engagement, helping those living with arthritis manage it more effectively.
Dubai, UAE – 14 October 2025 – The Middle East Arthritis Foundation (MEAF), a non-profit dedicated to promoting health and hope, successfully hosted its World Arthritis Day (WAD) event today at the Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai. Under this year’s theme, “Arthritis Matters: Empowering Lives, Building Stronger Communities,” the event drew over 200 patients, caregivers, and community members, providing a platform to raise awareness about arthritis, encourage early diagnosis, and build stronger support networks.
The gathering featured a mix of educational, therapeutic, and interactive sessions. Attendees benefited from Yoga for Arthritis, a live Tai Chi therapy demonstration, and a dance session for joint health, alongside expert talks covering treatment options, nutrition, fertility-friendly and anti-inflammatory diets, and mental health strategies under the session Not All Pain is Visible. The day concluded with a dynamic Q&A, allowing participants to engage directly with rheumatologists and share personal experiences.
Highlighting the unique challenges faced by women and mothers living with arthritis, sessions emphasized fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum care. Experts shared insights into managing flares during pregnancy and strategies for maintaining health while caring for young children. Patient engagement workshops offered attendees a chance to hear real-life stories, reinforcing the message that resilience and community support are key to navigating arthritis.
“I couldn’t walk just three months ago and had almost given up hope. Living with psoriatic arthritis for nine years has been a tough journey, but my mother never stopped believing in me. Thanks to her, my doctors, and this amazing support group, I’m standing here today—literally and emotionally stronger than ever,” said a young participant at the event.
Dr. Humeira Badsha, Founding Member of the Middle East Arthritis Foundation, said: “Today’s event was an inspiring reminder of the strength and determination of people living with arthritis. With millions affected worldwide, including one in five in the UAE, public understanding remains critical. Events like these help patients access timely care, empower women navigating fertility and motherhood, and foster a community that supports one another. We hope to witness this level of engagement in future events too.”
All sessions were free to attend, reflecting MEAF’s commitment to accessible education and awareness. The Foundation continues to advocate for early diagnosis and treatment, aiming to reduce disability and improve quality of life for patients across the region.
Beyond this annual event, MEAF continues to foster community connection through its Monthly Arthritis Support Group, which meets every second Saturday of the month at 4:00 p.m. at Mubadala Health Dubai, Sunset Mall, Kite Beach. These informal gatherings provide a safe space for patients and caregivers to exchange experiences, share practical lifestyle advice, and find encouragement from others living with different forms of arthritis. Anyone who missed this year’s World Arthritis Day celebration is encouraged to join these sessions and become part of a growing, supportive community.
