United Arab Emirates, Al Ain, 20 May 2025: Brighton College Al Ain has been officially recognised as an Outstanding school in all assessed categories following its exceptional performance in the latest British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspection, reaffirming its commitment to delivering world-class education for pupils aged three to 18.
Furthermore, it is the only school in Al Ain to achieve the Outstanding rating, the highest possible grading, from both BSO and ADEK (Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge), reinforcing its position as a leader in British international education.
Conducted over four days in February 2025, the inspection—quality assured by Ofsted—covered 84 lessons, with 27 jointly observed by an inspector and a senior member of staff. Inspectors met with leaders, teachers, pupils, parents, and the governing board, evaluated pupil work and school policies, and assessed safeguarding and well-being measures.
Brighton College Al Ain fully met all BSO standards applicable under UAE regulations, as endorsed by the UK Department for Education (DfE), cementing its top-tier British international school status and ensuring a seamless transition for pupils entering the independent school system in England.
Academic Excellence and Holistic Learning
The BSO report praised Brighton College Al Ain's outstanding performance in core subjects, noting that pupil attainment and progress in English, mathematics, and science consistently exceed UK national averages. Pupils demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, creativity, and independence in learning, with teaching strategies that ensure rapid progress for all children, including those for whom English is an additional language (EAL).
The College's innovative curriculum was recognised for offering a rich, engaging learning experience that nurtures curiosity, confidence, and kindness—values that define the Brighton College ethos. Pupils benefit from outstanding teaching across all phases, supported by highly effective assessment strategies that encourage continuous improvement and excellence.
The report also highlighted the breadth of the College's curriculum, including specialist teaching in humanities, performing arts, modern languages, sports, and technology. Pupils also benefit from an extensive range of over 55 co-curricular activities (CCAs), including the Medical Society, Lego and Nature Club for younger kids, and pupil-led initiatives such as Chess Club, Debating Society, and Sustainability Ambassadors. The Duke of Edinburgh Award and LAMDA certifications were specifically noted as enhancing pupil development and leadership skills.
The Sixth Form was recognised for its exceptional A-Level results, with 56% of pupils achieving A*–A grades and 72% achieving A*–B. Graduates secure placements at leading universities worldwide, particularly in Medicine, Law, Engineering, and Business. The College's dedicated careers and university guidance programme ensures pupils are well-prepared for top-tier institutions and future careers.
Exceptional Leadership, Pupil Development, and Moral Growth
Brighton College Al Ain's leadership team was commended for its ambitious vision, strategic oversight, and commitment to fostering an inclusive, high-achieving school culture. Inspectors highlighted the College's dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals, with pupils demonstrating exemplary behaviour, respect, and resilience.
The report also praised the College's outstanding commitment to spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, noting that pupils display kindness, responsibility, and a strong sense of integrity in their interactions. Pupils were found to be deeply engaged in their learning and personal growth, actively participating in initiatives that promote empathy, leadership, and community service.
Furthermore, inspectors recognised that Brighton College Al Ain instils a deep respect for diversity, inclusivity, and global citizenship, ensuring that pupils are well-prepared for life beyond the classroom. This aligns with the College's belief in developing not just academic achievers but compassionate global citizens who embody the values of curiosity, confidence, and kindness.
Commenting on this significant milestone, Mr Oliver Bromley-Hall, Head Master of Brighton College Al Ain said, "This Outstanding rating is a true testament to the dedication and expertise of our entire community—from our exceptional teachers and pastoral leaders to our governors and support staff. At Brighton College Al Ain, we take great pride in delivering an education that blends academic excellence with a deep commitment to pupil well-being and character development. To be recognised as Outstanding by both BSO and ADEK reflects how successfully we are achieving this, and I'm confident that Brighton College Al Ain will continue to set new standards in British international education."
This latest BSO Outstanding rating follows the College's continued success under ADEK inspections, where it has maintained its Outstanding status in 2016, 2018, and 2023, further solidifying its position as the leading British curriculum school in Al Ain.
Brighton College Al Ain remains dedicated to maintaining its reputation for excellence, setting new benchmarks in British international education, and continuing to inspire pupils to achieve their full potential.
