Mikkel Bjerg on the hunt for further success in 2025

I'm obsessed with the sport of cycling. Since I started riding a bike at my local cycling club, I've dreamt of becoming a professional cyclist. Cycling has become my greatest passion, and I have spent most of my life working to reach the pinnacle of the sport. Even after 15+ years in the world of cycling I am still motivated to learn and improve to remain at the top level.

 

Growing up in Denmark, I had no shortage of role models. Danish cycling is rich with legends who have had a big impact on the sport. As a young rider, I always admired those who were five or ten years ahead of me. Now my role models are my teammates and close friends. That's one of the beautiful things about this sport, one day you're watching your idols and the next you're riding alongside them.

 

From a young age, time trialling has been a key element of my training. I was fortunate enough to win three consecutive U23 World Time Trial Championships, an achievement that shaped my journey as a professional. I've always loved the discipline. It's a test of pure effort, where I can control my own pace and focus on doing my absolute best.

 

That same strength led me to my first WorldTour victory—Stage 4 of the 2023 Critérium du Dauphiné. Winning a race at that level was a dream I had been striving to achieve for years. Beating Jonas Vingegaard, my countryman and one of the best riders in the world, made it even more special. As I sat in the hot seat watching the times roll in, all I felt was relief when I won. I had struggled in my early years as a pro, but I always believed I had what it took to win a big race, so I was really happy once I finally took that first win.

 

Fast forward to 2025, and my season kicked off with the AlUla Tour and the UAE Tour. It wasn't the fastest start to the season as I battled with illness in January, but these two races helped me ease back into the rhythm of the peloton. As a team we have great memories from the UAE Tour. Last year was an unforgettable experience, as our team swept the podium in the time trial, an incredible moment that rewarded the hard work I had put in during my altitude training camp. It was great to have both personal and team success on home turf.

 

I'm a big fan of the two mountain top stages at the UAE Tour—Jebel Jais and Jebel Hafeet are always brutal. I take pride in giving everything I have on the road for the team. If emptying the tank helps secure a victory, then I've done exactly what I set out to do.

 

This year, we came to the race with Tadej as the clear favourite. He's a great leader and it motivates me be perfect on every stage and give it my all. He brings the best out of me as a rider. It was amazing to see him stand atop of the podium at our home race once again.

 

This was a UAE Tour to remember, we celebrated two wins and a series of standout performances. I feel like we have a really great group of staff and riders. Everyone knew their role, and when it all comes together, it's incredibly rewarding. Racing in the UAE is always a privilege, we feel the support of the fans and our sponsors, and we want to give back by performing at our very best.

 

Looking ahead, my goals for 2025 are clear. I want to win. A victory in my own right would be a milestone, but just as importantly, I want to help my teammates secure as many wins as possible. The summer and late-season races are key targets for me, and I'll be making sure I'm in peak shape when those moments arrive.
