Statement by Ahmed bin Meshar Secretary General of the Supreme Legislation Committee on the Occasion of the GCC 42nd Anniversary

Dubai, 24 May 2023: “On the auspicious occasion of the 42nd anniversary of the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), we at the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) take this opportunity to commemorate the formation of a strategic alliance between countries bound by fraternity and historical ties based on a shared destiny, common aspirations for development, and visions for the future. Since its founding over four decades ago in Abu Dhabi, the GCC has established a solid foundation for a strong political, economic, military, and security partnership, setting an example for joint Arab efforts and providing a strong pillar for the region’s stability, development, and progress.

The establishment of the GCC was a reflection of the aspirations of the member states’ peoples and the visions of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his fellow founding leaders of the GCC, may they rest in peace. Today, the GCC continues to further strengthen the bonds of cooperation and partnership among Gulf nations and harmonise the regulatory frameworks across all levels in pursuit of the desired integration.

We at the SLC, are proud to take part in commemorating the founding of the Gulf Cooperation Council, reaffirming our resolve to develop a legislative system that aligns with national goals and enhances partnerships and areas of cooperation with all sisterly and friendly nations.”
