Dubai, UAE, 24 January, 2023: du, from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), has partnered with Dubai authorities to accelerate their digital transformation journey – delivering solutions which will drive the next generation of high-performance, low-power, 5G drones.
du’s demonstrated the futuristic drone solution powered by 5G over a private secured network to operate drones that strengthened security and safety measures through video recording, streaming, and monitoring areas across the city on New Year’s Eve when more than two million people visited the Dubai Downtown area to celebrate the occasion. The partnership enabled the Dubai authorities to digitize their operations and remotely control autonomous drones as well as enable full video and live streaming at its command center. To ensure a high-quality network experience on New Year's Eve, du prepared its Private 5G mobile network with a unique configuration to ensure uninterrupted coverage and quality of service that satisfied the connectivity requirements of the drones in the area.
The partnership was highly successful as it enabled a new 5G use case in UAE by du and enabled solution to observe and operate drones that monitored the crowd, facilitated security measures and provided visibility in crowded places such as Downtown Dubai, particularly the fountain area which attracted a large number of visitors and made Sheikh Zayed Road congested with vehicles.
Under its new campaign “A network that gets you”, du’s Private 5G network supports development for commercial, enterprise, and industrial drones, and unleashes innovative possibilities for industries looking to adopt drone solutions and realize the benefits of the intelligent edge.
