Dubai, 23 June 2021: Dubai Municipality has launched its annual community awareness campaign, My Vehicle, under the slogan, “Clean Vehicle, Sustainable City” with the aim of educating all segments of public about the importance of preserving the aesthetic and civilized appearance of the city by committing not to leave abandoned vehicles, boats and equipment in public places.
The My Vehicle campaign includes raising awareness in the field of sustainable waste management and enhancing community awareness on maintaining the aesthetic appearance as well as having knowledge of laws, regulations and services related to this vital area of interest to all members of the society.
The campaign aims to reduce the behavior of leaving abandoned vehicles, boats and equipment in public places, which abounds in this period of the year due to annual vacations and travel season. It will also raise the level of community awareness on the damages caused by neglected vehicles, as well as promote the values of social responsibility, in addition to cooperating with departments and establishments in the government and private sectors on maintaining the sustainability of the public appearance and the beauty of the facilities.
Since the beginning of this year, 5,340 SMSs have been sent to owners of abandoned vehicles belonging to the Emirate of Dubai, which received great response from community members. These messages reached wherever they were, whether inside or outside the country, which clearly helped them quickly respond and coordinate with the Municipality in order for them to take all required measures regarding their abandoned vehicles.
A specialized field team monitors and documents all information and data of neglected vehicles and equipment in all areas of the Emirate, which include light and heavy vehicles, long trucks and trailers, boats and various marine transport. The process of removing these vehicles begins by monitoring the vehicles and equipment and documenting all their data on tablets.
It should be noted that 1,074 abandoned vehicles have been removed since the beginning of this year. Removal of abandoned vehicles and equipment is subject to conditions regulated by the provisions of Local Order No. 11 of 2003 and the Executive Regulations Concerning Public Health and Community Safety in the Emirate of Dubai.
