Dubai, United Arab Emirates – May 1, 2019 - Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) alongside the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA), one of the world’s most renowned photography associations, is proud to announce the four grand prize winners after a two-month Instagram competition garnering entries from over 10 countries including UAE, KSA, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait among others.
With the aim to make high-class photography more accessible to consumers, HIPA and Huawei conceptualized the ‘Huawei Moments’ competition to support local talent and encourage creativity. Divided into two rounds with a grand knock out round to win a coveted trip to Iceland, four themes were spotlighted: People & Culture, Cityscape, Nature and Night Photography.
"Photography with smartphones has become a fundamental part of everyday life," said Ali bin Thalith, Secretary General of HIPA. "It has become a visual witness, or even a photographic archive of our current day. Our images are a reflection of us, so it is no surprise that we take care about the quality of the images and professionalism before sharing with others. At the cross section of care is where we witness the photographic skills with the support of advanced imaging techniques come to life. The results of this combination can be seen in all the winning photos of this competition. We congratulate the winners and wish the rest of the participants’ success in their future photographic endeavours.”
A panel of judges from HIPA selected the four grand prize winners from more than 9,000 entries captured on Huawei smartphones. The grand prize winner list included:
- Maram Hatem Elkhashab (People and Culture) - evocative image of a man engulfed in his spun yarn – shot on HUAWEI Y9 2018
- Rosaline Baylosis (Cityscape) - starry-eyed skyline image of Dubai’s imminent concrete jungle – shot on HUAWEI P10 Plus
- Ekaterina Kovshova (Nature) - mind eluding image of several camel’s shadows on desert sand – shot on HUAWEI Mate20 pro
- Khadija Ibtisam (Night Photography) - proud image of the grand mosque in Abu Dhabi – shot on HUAWEI Mate20 Pro
The four grand prize winners of “Huawei Moments” Instagram photo competition will get the chance to test the recently launched HUAWEI P30 Pro Supercamera and impressive performance smartphone in various real-life conditions during the photo-tour in Iceland. The device packs the advanced world-first Leica Quad camera, updated Night Mode to photograph the stunning Icelandic night sky. Whereas the SuperZoom Lens captures the beauty of surrounding nature down to its minutest detail. The smartphone’s long-lasting battery will ensure that the travelers never run out of battery while recording videos and taking pictures of their scenic excursions, as it is capable of lasting beyond one day of extensive usage.
