13 May 2018, Dubai, UAE: UAE Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Sulaiman Hamid Almazroui, recently visited Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) in London. H.E. Sulaiman Hamid Almazroui was accompanied by Mr Jamal Al Owais, UAE Medical Attaché; Dr Suhaila Qayed, Director of Dubai Health Office, London and Dr Sabir Hawari, UAE Inpatient Coordinator.
During his visit, H.E. Sulaiman Hamid Almazroui was welcomed by Mr Chris Rockenbach, General Manager of GOSH’s International and Private Patient service. He then visited Butterfly Ward where he met with family members and the lead clinical staff, and toured the facility. GOSH treats 1,500 children from the Middle East every year. Last year, GOSH treated 248 patients from the United Arab Emirates.
H.E. Sulaiman Hamid Almazroui met with Emirati father, Omar Al Abbadi, from Dubai. His five-month-old daughter, Alia Al Abbadi, was born with a rare heart disorder called endocardial fibroelastosis. Alia had her first operation at GOSH when she was just one month old and will need two more highly specialised procedures at GOSH to correct the condition.
Speaking about the Ambassador’s visit, Alia’s father, Omar, said: “I was extremely happy to have the UAE ambassador visit us in the hospital today. Sheikh Zayed, peace be upon him, taught us that we have to be brothers. Of course, the older brother will always come and check on his younger brothers. The ambassador and his team do regular check-ups on us, check our progress and are always willing to help and provide for us. I told the ambassador that we are so lucky to have him visit us. I am very grateful to everyone who took part in my daughter’s treatment; the Dubai Health Authority office, the attaché, the embassy and of course, GOSH. I am so happy that they saved my daughter’s life.”
