German excellence on display as Kohlschreiber targets Audi at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

Dubai, UAE, February 28, 2018: It was a case of Vorsprung durch technik meets Vorsprung durch tennis today as Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber surveyed the Audi sport models TTRS, RS3, RS 5 and SQ5 on display in the Tennis Village at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
And in a test of his skill Kohlschreiber accepted the challenge of hitting tennis balls into the boots of each of the cars.
Kohlschreiber said “Well it was a fun thing, I was allowed to shoot at the great Audis behind me, trying to get the balls into the boot, it was fun but it’s not that easy! Playing top spin or slice on the court is sometimes easier than hitting target options.”
Kohlschreiber, the tournament sixth seed, said “I am happy to be back here in Dubai which is a great tournament. It’s the whole package here, it’s very convenient because you can walk to the practice or match courts, there’s a great gym, food and hospitality are great, the organization, there are lots of things to do outside tennis which I prefer. I think it makes it easy to play good tennis here. I like the outside tournaments, I like the heat because I feel it suits my game when the ball is bouncing higher, it’s nice to play in the dessert heat. I’m feeling healthy which is always important when on tour. I’m not getting younger so I’m happy I’m still playing good tennis.
Audi are a sponsor of the event, and among the cars on display in the Tennis Village is the new Audi RS 5 Coupé, which is the first Audi Sport model in the new RS design idiom. The car’s newly developed 2.9 TFSI bi-turbo engine produces 450 hp and delivers 600 Nm of torque, and standard quattro drive distributes the power to all four wheels.
Kohlschreiber kicked off his challenge for the Dubai title yesterday with a 6-4 6-2 win over Gleb Sakharov. He will now face promising youngster and former junior world number one Stefanos Tsitsipas, who yesterday defeated Mikhail Kukushkin.
