18,000 registration request for vehicle’s tires smart card in the UAE
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - 15 November 2017: The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA) has witnessed a strong demand from the manufacturers and suppliers of tires in the UAE to apply for registration in the tire tracking system and its specifications since it was approved by the board of directors of ESMA in early June.
The number of suppliers and registrants in the RFID system has reached 17,838 suppliers registered over the past three months, an increase of nearly double, compared to 9 thousand and 774 transactions were recorded in the second quarter of this year. HE Abdulla Almaeeni, Director General of “ESMA” said.
The rapid response by suppliers to join the tire tracking system contributes to reducing the volume of waste resulting from the recycling of tires, including trucks and light vehicles, and increasing the processing rate to meet a major part of the objectives (National Agenda 2021). Treatment of waste from vehicle tires to about 75% in the country. He Added.
Earlier this year, (ESMA) decided to install mandatory smart system for vehicles tires in the UAE in order to check tire safety, prevent tampering, and directly contribute to reducing roads accidents caused by poor tires, recycled, and associated threats to the safety of road users and public and private property.
Database
The “RFID” includes all the tires that are sold in the UAE markets, so that these tires are linked to a central database, since their import and entry through the customs outlets until marketing and distribution to wholesalers, retailers, and reaching the consumer, where each frame holds a single serial number that cannot be repeated to prevent tire manipulation. Almaeeni confirmed.
The smart chip known as "RFID" is embedded in the data card, and is a one of ESMA's innovations products, during the first half of this year. This is a means of ensuring the safety of tires in the UAE market.
Serial number
The new technology includes all the tires in the UAE’s markets, and is linked to a central database, from the import of tires at the customs, outlets to marketing and distribution to wholesalers and retailers. Each frame carries a single serial number that cannot be repeated. He explained.
“ESMA” has used new technologies in an effort to ensure the protection of consumers' rights, as well as the presence of recycled tires in local markets, and the risk of buying non-conforming of its kind. Almaeeni said.
The irregularities determined by the UAE Cabinet against the infringing merchants are progressive violations, starting with the notification of the outlet of selling the tires in the presence of the violation. The supplier is then given three days to review the corrective action.
A federal circular will be issue “not to sell the product at outlets nationwide”, also there is a fine of AED 30,000 for the offending trader. And the trader’s file will forward to the judicial authorities in the UAE.
