Customs World strengthens ties with customs administrations around the world

Dubai, UAE, September 18, 2017:  Customs World, a subsidiary of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has gone far to develop customs work around the world through contributing to customs performance development with tangible steps in supporting development plans in other countries to help them enhance their economic growth. 

For this Customs World raised the tempo of its communication and visits to other countries to enhance ties of cooperation and partnership. Recently a customs development agreement was signed with Ghana following a preliminary visit by Faisal Eissa Lutfi, CEO of Customs World, and Adolphe Chaiban, Head of Development at Customs World to attend Port Efficiency Conference in the Ghani capital, Accra.

Ghana organized this conference and invited Customs World to learn about the best practices followed in customs and ports as part of a reform national program. Customs World was selected to inspire and talk about the best useful customs practices adopted at Dubai Customs which has the best customs experience in the world.  

The Ghani ministers and senior officials listened to a presentation from Faisal Lutfi on Dubai Customs experience in promoting customs procedures and services, and its global distinctive role in innovating new customs services and products. The presentation also included information on the advanced applications and experiences that Customs World can provide to advance customs procedures and services in other countries.

In the presentation, Lutfi reaffirmed the importance of experience and knowledge exchange between customs administrations worldwide. 

Lutfi said that adding a real value to all customs administrations seeking to learn from Dubai experience is a priority to Customs World.

Last March, World Customs signed an agreement of cooperation with the General Directorate of Customs of the Dominican Republic.

According to the agreement, Customs World will provide technical assistance and expert advice to the Dominican Customs in their reform and modernization process. The aim is to devise a reform and development blueprint to build Dominican Customs’ capacity through enhanced customs procedures and clearance systems. 

The project is geared towards boosting Dominican Customs services, duty collection and revenue protection, while building their anti-smuggling capabilities to ensure a safe and secure society, and reinforce economic growth. This will ultimately enhance the Dominican Republic’s capacities and further underpin its position as a regional trade hub in the Caribbean.  

In 2016, Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) hosted an international delegation, co-headed by Dubai Customs World (CW) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with an objective to achieve Tanzania’s goal of becoming a regional hub for trade in East Africa and come together to eliminate smuggling.
The official visiting delegation, co-headed by Faisal Eissa Lutfi and UNDP Global Adviser Paul Harrison; met the Commissioner General, Alphayo J. Kidata, and high-profile officials from Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), including Mary Maganga, Director of Research, Policy and Planning; Said Athuman, Deputy Commissioner for Customs and Excise; alongside a host of other officers.

The move is in line with CWs vision of global best practice sharing in the effort to facilitate international trade while securing sovereign borders by strengthening close cooperation with friendly nations.
