Arcade 82 and Vandalye Kick Off New Season of Red Bull Opening Acts

Red Bull once again highlights the region's best underground talent in partnership with FLASH Entertainment

Dubai, UAE, November 7, 2016:  The first two Red Bull Opening Acts for this year's Yasalam After-Race Concerts at the 2016 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX have now been announced. On Friday, 25th November , UAE-based electro duo Arcade 82 will open for The Chemical Brothers at the du Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, and on Saturday, 26th November, the popular UAE indie-folk group Vandalye will open for global superstar Lionel Richie as part of his ALL THE HITS WORLD TOUR at the Yasalam After-Race Concert. again at the du Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

Opening Acts is Red Bull's curated selection of some of the best underground talent in the region, who get to perform on the same bill as the iconic international artists that FLASH Entertainment hosts in the UAE's Capital every year. In recent years, Red Bull Opening Acts have included Beirut blues-rockers The Wanton Bishops, UAE-based metal act Anuryzm and Dubai rock group Jay Wud, all of whom have performed for tens of thousands of people at the du Arena.

Acclaimed UK electronic duo The Chemical Brothers open The Yasalam After-Race Concerts for the 2016 Formula 1 Etihad Airwarys Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this season, and for Arcade 82, landing the opening slot for the seminal, four-time Grammy-winning act is “the things dreams are made of”, according to Mark Pickup. Along with Shyam Parmar, Pickup comprises the UAE-based deep-house act, who – with several charted releases in 2016 – have carved out a reputation as forerunners in the Emirates' burgeoning electronic music scene in the three years since they formed. The duo perform with live synths, drum machines, sampling pads and Parmar's soulful vocals. All of which is done while they're still DJing. “We felt there was too much synching going on in the industry, so we wanted to keep the raw DJ'ing element to it,” Pickup says. Their performance at ‘Red Bull Music Academy Presents 10 Years of Audiotonic' helped cement their place on the list of Red Bull Opening Acts, and on Friday, 25th November, they'll get to introduce their thrilling live show to thousands of new music lovers. It's a huge opportunity, as Parmar explains. “The Chemical Brothers are simply iconic,” he says. “Growing up with their music and watching them at festivals, they are one of the biggest musical influencers of electronic music. It is such an amazing privilege to share a stage with them.”

Dubai-based indie-folk trio Vandalye – frontman Scott Attew and multi-instrumentalist twins Lucas and Thomas McCone – only formed just over a year ago, but have quickly established themselves as one of the UAE's brightest independent talents. Their debut EP, From The Beginning, illustrated the trio's knack for atmospheric, anthemic songwriting, led by Attew's powerful vocals and evocative lyricism. Recently, they've added bassist Alex Tombrink and drummer Nimmer Khokhar to their live line-up, and will open for American pop idol and four-time GRAMMY'S winner Lionel Richie at  the du Arena on Saturday, 26th November.

“It's an incredible opportunity to support such a music legend and to be playing on the same stage where The Who, Paul McCartney, JAY-Z, Kings of Leon and others have played,” says Attew. “We can't wait to see what doors open up from this.”

For both shows, the doors to du Arena open at 7pm and the Red Bull Opening Acts perform at 8pm. Don't miss your opportunity to see two of the best underground acts in the UAE play their biggest shows yet.
