Meals to be distributed in Tajikistan as part of salma Humanitarian Relief Program
Dubai, UAE, July 30, 2016: As part of its sustained efforts to help the needy across the world, Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) delivered 63,000 halal meals to the Dubai Charity Association. The initiative was in line with the mandate of the salma Humanitarian Relief Program launched by AMAF to provide pre-packed halal meals to victims of wars and conflicts.
In recent times, Tajikistan, located in Central Asia and home to around eight million people, has witnessed several natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes – a reason why the country takes precedence as a target of the UAE’s humanitarian aid that is consistently offered to disaster-ridden countries globally.
Speaking on the initiative, His Excellency Tayeb Al-Rais, Secretary General of AMAF said: “The salma Humanitarian Relief Program has become a global role model that reflects the vision of Dubai and the wider UAE in developing an economic system that is inspired by our religion’s values of justice, equality, and human solidarity.
“The cross-border project is based on sustainable waqf and is part of Dubai’s strategy to become a global capital of Islamic economy. Through the salma Humanitarian Relief Program, we support noble relief efforts that seek to help victims regardless of their race, color or religion.”
For his part, Ahmed Mesmar, Secretary-General of the Dubai Charity Association, commended the role of Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation and the salma Humanitarian Relief Program in helping needy people affected by wars and natural disasters on a global level. He noted that such efforts positively transform the future of such communities and offer hope in the most adverse circumstances.
The Dubai Charity Association has already shipped the salma-branded halal meals to Tajikistan to be distributed to needy families. The pre-packaged meals that do not require cooking or refrigeration, have a shelf-life of three years.
The salma Humanitarian Relief Program was launched in 2014 in partnership with the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (DIEDC) and Noor Awqaf, and in collaboration with the UN World Food Programme, with logistical support offered by Dubai International Humanitarian City.
Donations to the salma Humanitarian Relief Program can be made via SMS messages. Etisalat and Du subscribers can contribute AED10 by sending an SMS to 7710, AED50 to 7750, and AED100 to 3100. Donors can also make their contributions to AMAF’s Dubai Islamic Bank account number 01-520-9451498-01.
