Dubai, UAE, May 3, 2016: When we think of ourselves as the “SELFIE GENERATION” we are often oscillated between utopia and dystopia; is this our contribution? We can proudly take ownership as 2016 will see a change toward the Selfie Economy; millennials utilising their passionate and vibrant entrepreneurial spirit to do so. Globally 1 million selfie’s are taken each day by people between the ages of 18 to 24 years old. They call us the “SELFIE GENERATION” the ones who are all about taking the perfect selfie; it’s nothing to be embarrassed of anymore, it’s a badge of honor. Standing in the middle of a crowd and deciding to take a picture of yourself at the perfect angle is something not only expected but encouraged? Whether we are playing with filters on Instagram or using the beauty mode on our phones; it’s a concept that we are definitely not going to let go of anytime soon. So here are some of the trends that the “SELFIE GENERATION” will continue to affect in 2016:
- Nowadays there isn’t really an excuse for a bad selfie: phone manufacturers are in a never ending race to install the perfect selfie mode or the best beauty mode to attract users. 2015 was a rather excruciating one for the leaders of the industry; Huawei beat them all out and became the number one manufacturer for 2015 as per Phadroid reader’s choice awards. With its latest street smart the Huawei honor 5x, “the Perfect Selfie Mode” automatically recognizes the face of the device owner and applies a special preset effect to the image. Other faces in the photo are enhanced with a secondary effect as well. This is an addition that only the “SELFIE GENERATION” understands and appreciates which will ultimately result in the perfect selfie.
- Selfies will be used as means of payments: Different technology companies across the world have also introduced the concept of “Selfie Pay”. This concept is also specifically designed to target the “SELFIE GENERATION” and it was recently introduced to Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa University, which allows individuals to pay for items by taking a selfie of themselves, the seller, and the price tag of the purchase, and sending it to a third party to process the payment.
- The selfie economy: Instagram has recently opened its doors for marketing which meant huge exposure for brands. Instagram is also already considered the most known and visually appealing marketing tool in the world which is why brands are already racing to come up with creative images to attract their potential customers in seconds and what’s better than relating to their audience and using the human angle in their communication? Aka Selfies”.
Basically there is no limit when it comes to being brave and instead of thinking outside the box or just eliminating that box completely by igniting creativity and courage. So if you are yet to become a selfie connoisseur remember, practice your squinching, be clever with your background and location, never forget your best angle and most importantly be inspired, utilise your passion for brave things. .
