Ideal for use alongside the Sony BVM-X300 for 4K and High Dynamic Range production
Dubai, UAE, April 23, 2016: Sony announced the new PVM-X550, a 55-inch 4K OLED monitor ideal for verifying 4K footage during production. The PVM-X550 incorporates Sony’s exclusive TRIMASTER EL™ technology, achieving superb colour and picture quality reproduction, and making the monitor ideal for 4K cinema production and 4K live production.
As demand continues to grow for next generation video formats such as 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR), improved workflows will become even more critical for cameramen, directors and producers evaluating video in the field. A 4K OLED large display that can be used alongside the BVM-X300, Sony’s award winning 30-inch 4K OLED reference monitor, has long been desired. The new PVM-X550 is ideally suited for this use as it is equipped with the same signal processing system as the BVM-X300 for picture accuracy and calibration. The combination of the Sony BVM series master monitors for critical evaluation and the PVM-X550 client monitor deliver the ideal image reproduction and picture quality.
The PVM-X550 supports HDR through various Electro-Optical Transfer Functions (EOTF), such as S-Log3, SMPTE ST.2084 and Hybrid Log-Gamma, covering applications for both cinematography and broadcast. It is equipped with the same signal-processing engine as the BVM-X300, providing a 12-bit output signal for the best picture accuracy and consistency. It also supports various industry standard colour spaces including the wider ITU-R BT.2020 for Ultra High Definition. These all work in tandem with TRIMASTER EL™ technology to ensure that professionals across the broadcast and cinematography industries are provided excellent, vibrant and reliable images. The PVM-X550 is the quad-view OLED monitor, which allows customized individual display settings across four distinct views in HD, including:
- Electro-Optical Transfer Function (EOTF)
- Colour space, Transfer Matrix and colour temperature
- Contrast, Bright and Chroma
- Interface (3G-SDI,HD-SDI including Single Link/Dual Link and HDMI)
- Signal structure (RGB and YCBCR)
With great off-axis viewing performance, the PVM-X550’s narrow bezel and lightweight design make it ideal for wall mounting, which is a particular benefit for integration into live production environments where space is often at a premium. At the same time, the 55-inch display also delivers a screen size that can fit in with the need for larger, more detailed monitors in the world of postproduction.
“Professional monitors are essential for 4K productions in the field and aid creators in visual storytelling”, said Vivian Saldanha, Business Head – Broadcast & Media, Sony Professional Solutions MEA.
“Sony has listened to its customers and partners about their individual needs during production and the result of those conversations is the PVM-X550 – the high-performance, versatile, and customisable quad-view OLED monitor. Cameramen, directors and producers now have the capability to choose individual settings for each of the four displays to achieve their desired outcome. With this range of displays, Sony is putting image quality and dependability at the front of its agenda, giving professionals the confidence to count on excellent, reliable images for the longest time possible,” added Saldanha.
The PVM-X550 will be available in Summer 2016.
