Dubai Culture Highlights Dubai as Capital of Islamic Art through Partnership with Islamic Museum of Australia

Dubai, UAE; March 06, 2016: For the first time, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) the Emirate's dedicated entity for heritage, arts and culture, will be partnering with the Islamic Museum of Australia (IMA) to highlight Dubai’s role as the capital of Islamic arts and culture.
The Islamic Museum of Australia is a not-for-profit foundation founded in May 2010 with the purpose of establishing the country’s first Islamic museum. It aims to showcase the rich artistic heritage and historical contributions of Muslims in Australia and abroad through the display of various artworks and historical artefacts.
Dubai Culture and the Islamic Museum of Australia have joined hands to host an Islamic Coins Exhibition in Australia. The event serves as an educational platform for all people from all walks of life to gain a deeper understanding of Islamic culture. It will also help build a greater understanding of different cultures, with a focus on the Islamic world.
The Islamic economy spans several nations covering over 1.7 billion Muslims worldwide. Dubai Culture’s participation aims to strengthen the pillars of the Islamic economy by creating awareness about Islamic arts. It will also delve into the inspirational world behind the rich history of Islamic finance with the display of coins from several collections.
His Excellency Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority said: “The fascinating realm of Islamic coins serves as a window on society and represents how it has evolved throughout the years. It will provide an assortment of perspectives, including a presentation of coins owned by one of the most noteworthy Islamic coin collectors, Abdulla Al Mutairi.
“We’re pleased to be partnering with the Islamic Museum of Australia in an exhibition that serves as an educational platform for people from all walks of life, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of global cultures. It also underlines the Museum’s mission to create a culture of awareness and understanding within an innovative environment.”
He added: “The event marks a remarkable beginning in creating an innovative environment of awareness and understanding about Islam and build bridges of solidarity amongst individuals from all walks of life.”
Dubai Culture is continuously seeking out opportunities for driving artistic diversity and innovation regionally and globally. With its strategic partnership with IMA, it will work to strengthen awareness of the Islamic heritage globally.
The event also underlines Dubai Culture’s commitment to strengthening the cultural landscape of Dubai by building on its rich Arabian and Islamic heritage. As the first centre of its kind in Australia, the Islamic Museum of Australia showcases a diverse range of Islamic arts including architecture, calligraphy, paintings, glass, ceramics and textiles. The Museum also aims to promote new and established Islamic artists, both local and international.
