Abu Dhabi, UAE, 20 January 2016: The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment (FEDARENE) at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi. According to the MoU, the two sides will share experiences and best practices in energy-related areas including policy making, technology development, green-financing mechanisms, awareness programmes, green buildings, smart homes, and energy management and efficiency. The two parties will also organise joint activities relating to energy demand management and challenges in the energy sector.
The MoU was signed by HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and Michael Geissler, Secretary General of FEDARENE.
“Energy efficiency has gained a lot of importance over the last few years and has become a critical competitiveness factor. Our partnership with FEDARENE will promote the implementation of innovative and effective measures, and increase awareness on energy efficiency and demand side management,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.
At the World Future Energy Summit, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy is showcasing the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy, which was recently reviewed in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to provide 7% of the Emirate’s energy from clean sources by 2020, 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050. Dubai is the only city in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to launch such a promising strategy, with specific targets and deadlines that outlines the future of energy in Dubai during the next three decades.
“Dubai Supreme Council of Energy participates in the World Future Energy Summit as an important platform that promotes knowledge, research, and organisational development. It is a meeting point for renewable and clean energy experts from across the world to exchange expertise and experiences and learn about the latest technologies and practices to develop innovative energy solutions. This will contribute to building a sustainable future for all, and streamlining efforts to address the current challenges facing the energy sector. The Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 aims to diversify Dubai's energy mix to include 25% from solar energy, 7% from clean coal, and 7% from nuclear power, and 61% from natural gas by 2030, and reduce energy use by 30%,” added Al Tayer.
“At the World Future Energy Summit, we are presenting the projects and initiatives under the umbrella of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. The Council also promotes the next Emirates Energy Awards and its categories, which include Energy Efficiency in the Public Sector and in the Private Sector, Large Energy Projects and Small Energy Projects, Education and Capacity Building, Research and Development, Young Professional Energy category, and Special Recognition Award,” said Al Muhairbi.
The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy is participating in WFES until 21 January 2016, in Hall 6, stand number 5120 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
