‘Supreme Legislation Committee' successfully hosts workshop on ‘‘Creativity and Innovation of Government Institutions'

UAE, November 28, 2015- The General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee (SLC) in Dubai successfully hosted lately a workshop entitled ‘Creativity and Innovation of Government Institutions’. The event is part of the ‘UAE Innovation Week’ initiative and in response to the directives of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President to mark 2015 as the ‘Year of Innovation’ and in line with the National Innovation Strategy which was launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The sessions were held under the supervision of Lieutenant Tariq Mohammed Al Saroumi, from Dubai Police and focused on how the efforts to adopt innovation plays a significant role in the country’s core values and its quest towards government excellence, and how the employee should consider his work as a workmanship he adores, and enjoys his performance and accomplishment in order to be creative.
H.E. Ahmed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Legislation Committee, said: “The SLC remains fully committed in supporting the country’s efforts towards adopting innovation and creativity, which also represents our belief in the importance of developing a distinct legal environment and creation of key legislation that are at pace with the requirements of the present and the future. Today’s workshop aimed towards helping participants adopt innovation as an integral part of their daily operations and also as an essential part of a well-established corporate culture. The sessions we held fall in accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to position the UAE as one of the world’s most innovative countries; and as His Highness said: If you accustom yourself to creativity in small things, creativity on a large scale will follow”.
Al Muhairi added, “Adopting innovation across government institutions is an important pillar for the goals set by Dubai 2021—aiming to build a highly proactive, integrated and innovative government that meets the current and future needs of the community and its members. SLC remains steadfast in its efforts to launch programs and initiatives that support the government’s efforts by developing the skills of its employees and developing human resources. In addition, applying innovative ideas represents an important addition to the process of modernizing legislative and legal structure and gives a strong boost to the move to support Dubai’s innovation strategy, which aims to make the emirate a center of innovation for more than two billion people around the world.
The Supreme Legislation Committee was established pursuant to Decree No. (23) of 2014 in line with the strategic plans of the Government of Dubai. The committee is tasked with the regulation and review of all issued legislation in Dubai via the adoption of a clear and effective procedure and methodology; developing the legislative process and improving legislation quality and efficiency; creating a legal system that can fulfil the aspirations and visions of the emirate and ensure that legislative provisions are in compliance with the Constitution and applicable with both federal and local legislation.
