DEWA organises Road Race on National Sports Day

Dubai, UAE, 25 November 2015: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in collaboration with Zabeel Ladies Club, has organised the Road Race activity on the National Sports Day. A large numbers of ladies, from DEWA’s staff and society, took part in the race in an exciting and energetic atmosphere. The activity was part of the National Sports Day, an initiative of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, organised under the slogan 'UAE Unites Us'.
“Launching the annual National Sports Day as per the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, emphasises his commitment to making Dubai the happiest city in the world, with healthy and fit individuals. We are pleased to participate in this national activity, which contributes to improving relations and encouraging values of forgiveness and integration. Events like these promote values of love and harmony in society through the language of sport, which everyone understands, regardless of their culture,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA is committed to encouraging its staff to follow a healthy lifestyle, exercise, and maintain a good work-life balance. DEWA’s organisation of the Road Race supports our commitment to participating in different national activities, and encouraging society to adopt healthy lifestyles to make them happier. We recognise that a happy and successful society is a society of healthy individuals,” added Al Tayer.
“DEWA exerts all available efforts to empower working women across all areas, to enhance their capabilities and their active participate in the development of DEWA and society as a whole. We recognise the important role women play in the social, cultural, and economic development. This year, DEWA formed women’s sports teams as part of our strategy to provide a positive work environment that motivates staff, promotes a good work-life balance, and contributes to improving overall health and fitness,” concluded Al Tayer.
“In line with our wise government’s focus on women’s sports, we at DEWA support working women to enhance their role, and to actively participate in various local and international sporting activities and events. This supports DEWA’s corporate social responsibility strategy,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Chairperson of DEWA Women’s Committee.
The Road Race took place at Zabeel Ladies Club. A large numbers of ladies from DEWA’s staff and from different parts of Dubai took part in this special sporting event. DEWA’s women’s sports team supervised the competition. At the end of the race, Fatima Deemas, Vice Chairperson of DEWA Women’s Committee, and Khuloud Al Ali, head of the women’s sports teams at DEWA, awarded medals and prizes to the runners who took the first ten places. Sara Alkous came first, Elite Cruikshank came second, and Asma Hanslod came third at the Road Race.
The organising committee of the Road Race prepared the location of the event according to the highest international safety standards. Ambulances, provided by the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, were positioned around the venue to ensure the safety of all contestants.
