Ministry of Health hosts the first Resuscitation Guidelines update in the Middle East & North Africa Region

UAE, November 24, 2015 – The Training and Development Center at the Ministry of Health recently organized a conference titled “2015 Emergency Cardiovascular Care Guidelines, International Instructor Update ” in partnership with the American Heart Association. Held at the center in Sharjah, the event was attended by medical and nursing professionals in the resuscitation field from government and private institutions in the UAE, Kuwait, Morocco, Turkey, India, Pakistan and South Africa.   

The conference highlighted the latest scientific studies and evidence regarding the best ways to address cases of cardiac arrest outside and inside the hospital, as well as aftercare. Other areas of discussion included the importance of developing local and regional healthcare systems for improved life support procedures; training programs for health care workers to keep them updated on the latest guidelines and other healthcare procedures related to cardiovascular emergency care.
 
A group of senior physicians from the American Heart Association as well as regional and local trainers from the Ministry of Health gave lectures on resuscitation methods, as well as post – resuscitation care.  They also focus on updates in first aid.

Mr. Saqr Al Humairi, Director of the Training and Development Center, said the conference was organized in support of the UAE Vision 2021 and its goal of reducing the number of deaths due to cardiovascular disease per 100,000 inhabitants. The conference also aims at equipping the nearly 100 Ministerial-accredited victims with the latest knowledge, as well as strengthen the relations between the Ministry of Health and other regional and international healthcare and educational institutions .All with the vision to reach international standards in healthcare services in the UAE.

Dr. Mohamed AbdulRazaq Nasaif, Training Consultant at the center, noted that the Ministry of Health is the first in the Middle East and North Africa region to train on the international resuscitation guidelines that are updated every five years following a thorough evaluation of the latest research and scientific evidence. He emphasized the significance of continuous regular training sessions for all Healthcare staff to maintain the optimal resuscitation, ensure compliance with international recommendations, and communicate to the community the importance of CPR and how it helps out of hospital cardiac arrest victims. At the end of the event, donations were collected from the participants toward Patients Friends Committee Charity.
