Abu Dhabi, 12 November 2015: Earlier this month, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) received the prestigious Daman Award for Corporate Health and Wellness Initiative, under Daman Corporate Health Awards. The award honours the bank’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, which delivers a number of initiatives aiming to contribute to the overall wellness of the community by educating the UAE community on the importance of early regular tests, and encouraging individuals to become supporters to the fight against this disease.
ADCB has successfully concluded its annual Breast Cancer Awareness campaign held in the month of October. The Bank has established itself as a key contributor to Breast Cancer Awareness in the UAE through a 6 years standing history of renowned educational, medical examination and fund raising initiatives.
Majdi Abdel Muhdi, Head – Corporate Communications at ADCB said: “We are honoured to have received the prestigious Daman Award for Corporate Health and Wellness Initiative. ADCB, for the 6th year rolling, is executing a number of planned initiatives to renew its commitment to supporting our community in its fight against breast cancer. Our moral duty goes beyond the financial contribution; spreading a message of hope among breast cancer patients, and encouraging and supporting women to take the early detection test through our sponsored mobile mammogram unit.”
ADCB partnered with Lifeline Hospital to offer 305 free mammogram screenings to the public through the Wellness-on-Wheels Mobile Mammogram unit, which was available at all of ADCB’s sponsored events. ADCB ATM users had the opportunity to take part in this campaign by donating one Dirham for the designated breast cancer charity at the end of each transaction throughout October. The community was also able to donate and send messages of hope through the ADCB Tree of Hope.
The total raised funds, through the various initiatives, amounted to more than AED 200,000 and have been donated to Al Jalila Foundation, a UAE-based philanthropic organization, dedicated to transforming lives through medical education and research.
“Breast cancer alone kills around half a million people each year as per the WHO. Early detection can save a lot of these lives. We have a responsibility to society and we are committed to play our part in early detection and elimination of breast cancer,” said Mr. Safeer Ahamed, Head of Hospitals at Lifeline.
A number of the initiatives in Abu Dhabi aimed to encourage the wider community to become active supporters of Breast Cancer were successfully concluded.
A breaking record of over 1,000 runners participated in the 6th annual edition of the ADCB Zayed Sport City Pink 5k and 10k, which attracted people from across the country, including ADCB’s employees. More than 100 guests attended the ADCB Pink Lady Golf Day at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, organized in conjunction with Abu Dhabi Health Authority. ADCB’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign wrapped up with its biggest event of the season with over 4,500 guests attending the ADCB Pink Polo at Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club.
ADCB extended its Breast Cancer Awareness campaign to its employees, making the Wellness-on-Wheels Mobile Mammogram unit available at several ADCB branches across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Al Ain during October. Dedicated interactive seminars were held for all staff with nutritionists, doctors and cancer survivors, through which breast cancer prevention and detection, and health tips were highlighted.
