Emirates Green Development Council to host High-level National Meeting on Sustainable Finance

United Arab Emirates, November 10, 2015 – The Emirates Green Development Council will host high-level national meeting on sustainable finance with the aim of defining the development and implementation of the UAE Green Growth Strategy from November 11 to 12, 2015 at The H Hotel in Dubai. Organized in collaboration with the UAE Central Bank, the Insurance Authority, the Securities & Commodities Authority (SCA), Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), and the United Nations Environment Program Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), the conference will highlight the important role of the financial sector and investment in green projects and encourage broader participation. 

The seminar is part of the preparations for hosting the 14th Meeting of the Global Roundtable, in cooperation with the UNEP FI under the theme ‘Islamic Finance in the Context of Green Economy and Sustainable Development’ which will be held in Dubai in 2016. To be held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, the meeting will ensure positive interaction and participation of the country’s financial sector.

The conference, which will be attended by a group of international experts, aims to assess the current situation as well as future investment opportunities in green projects. This will enable them to bring systemic change in the funding areas of sustainable development sector through the presentation of the results of the questionnaire "to assess the current status and future prospects of the financial sector to finance green investments" supervised by the Board of Emirates Green development.
    
The agenda for the first day includes a welcome Note by H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmad bin Fahad, UAE Minister of Environment and Water. The UAE President Council calls for seminars on green development to highlight the concept and importance of green financing as well as assess the current situation in green investments at the national and international levels. The Council will organize detailed workshops for the banking sector on the second day in the green axes and funding by a group of experts from the UNEP FI in the key areas of innovation in green financing.
