Youngsters Enjoy a Happy Holiday Camp With Packed Summer Programme

Sharjah Museums Department organises educational workshops ranging from traditional Arabic arts to detective skills and toy making
SHARJAH, Aug 5th, 2015: Children have no excuse to be bored this summer, with a host of exciting educational activities organised by Sharjah Museums Department on offer throughout August.
From cooking pizza and making toys to learning calligraphy and digging up buried treasure, SMD’s “Happy Holiday Camp” Summer programme is guaranteed to keep young minds occupied.
Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization will host workshops on the aesthetics of glass from August 2nd to August 5th. The programme, aimed at youngsters aged 10 to 14, will include documentaries on how to make glass, a session on learning the applications of glass in art, and a workshop on how to make and colour glass pieces.
There’s a whole range of acitivities for 6 to 14 year olds at Sharjah Science Museum until 4th August. Entitled “Today’s Children, Tomorrow’s Scientist”, the programme includes experimental workshops on topics as diverse as bread making, excavation and mining, brain function and the senses, food nutrients, the biology of fish and toy making.
A “Little Detective” workshop will introduce inquisitive youngsters to some basic police investigation techniques such as fingerprinting.
The Sharjah Archaeology Museum is holding a series of morning workshops entitled “The Genius Hunter” from Aug 2nd – 13th, focusing on hunting through the ages. The children will learn about hunting implements used during the Stone Age, the Iron Age, and the Bronze Age, and have the opportunity to create their own traditional Emirati hunting and diving tools such as fishhooks and nets.
During the same period, youngsters aged nine to 12 can take their first steps in calligraphy and typography at beginners’ workshops led by the calligrapher Reda Juma at the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum. The sessions will include instruction on how to hold and sharpen the calligraphy brushes as well as an introduction to how different calligraphy papers and canvas are made.
From August 16th -27th Collage Talent Center at Sharjah Ladies Club - will host the “Art Express” series, organised by Sharjah Art Museum. The programme will introduce participants to basic art tools including canvas types, scotch tapes, colored sand and acrylic paints and teach them how to use these to design geometrical shapes and Arabic letters.
