The programme is part of an MoU signed with Dubai Carbon to help the police force reduce its carbon emissions.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: - 30 Jan 2015: UNIDO, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, following upon the signature of the MoU with the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy earlier this year, kicks off its activities in Dubai.
In partnership with the Dubai Police, 23 police officers have been selected to attend a three-day UNIDO Energy Management Systems (EnMS) user training and awareness program. The EnMS training follows the directive put in place by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, and is organized by Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence.
“In nominating 23 officers for this programme, we have embarked on our goal towards achieving the first ‘Zero Carbon Police Force’. The programme covered sessions on energy efficiencies and energy management, along with case studies pertinent to Dubai Police and our operations,” said Major General Khamis Matar Al Muzaina, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.
The UNIDO Industrial Energy Efficiency Programme supports enterprises in developing and emerging economies in the implementation of EnMS, thereby helping them improve their energy performance, productivity and environmental sustainability.
“The capacity building initiativeisan important milestone in the MoU that was signed between Dubai Carbon and Dubai Police to jointly pilot replicable and scalable initiatives for energy efficiency, fuel saving, and carbon offsetting,” said Waleed Salman, Chairman, Dubai Carbon.
UNIDO has been conducting the EnMS training programme as part of its technical assistance in developing countries and emerging economies. So far, it has provided in-depth training courses to around 800 energy efficiency experts in over 300 companies worldwide, achieving average annual energy savings of 5-15% in the first year of implementation, with minimal capital investments.
“We are pleased to support Dubai Police in serving the environmental agenda. We are confident that this initiative will help accelerate green trade and investment in the regional markets bymobilizing green technologies, products and services. I am sure the Dubai Police will be a leader in this field and act as a catalyst to further enhance energy efficiency efforts of the United Arab Emirates,” said Pradeep Monga, Director of UNIDO’s Energy Branch and Special Representative of the Director General on Energy.
The breadth and scope of the programme has expanded significantly since its inception, resulting in significant reductions in greenhouse gases and a stronger market for energy efficiency technologies and services through the leadership highly legitimate and committed entities such as Dubai Police and their role in society.
The partnership between Dubai Police and Dubai Carbon will contribute to the sustainable and green growth of the Dubai economy. The partnership will enable the growth of green trade and investment in regional markets accelerating the adoption of green technologies, products and services.
The success of these projects will catapult Dubai Police as carbon neutral - the first police force in the world to achieve this feat.
