VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITY DURING IFTAR IN KUWEITI MOSQUE, DEIRA ON 30TH JUNE 2015
ARTICLE BY NITYASHRI SANKARAN, GRADE 7 STUDENT AT DELHI PRIVATE SCHOOL, SHARJAH
The Holy Month of Ramadan is a time for giving and sharing. Myself and a few of my friends and youth members ranging in age from 8 years to teenagers collected their pocket money and donated it for the funds towards the daily Iftar conducted at the Kuweiti Mosque by the organization IMAN, UAE.
The iftar is prepared daily for the entire holy month for about 2500 people consisting of water, milk, dates, fruits and a healthy porridge, and it was a great volunteering opportunity to be a part of the event for a day. Funds are mainly received from NGOs, corporates and through individual contributions only. The Iftar gathering is attended daily by approximately 2,500 persons from different nationalities
The sheets are drawn throughout the market area and we helped the staff arrange the items for iftar over the entire area for about an hour. The event aims to strengthen the feeling of goodwill and unity among Muslims and spread the spirit of sharing and togetherness among people of different nationalities who gather in the mosque area for the prayer and Iftar.
I believe Youth have a great potential to make a difference in society and they are not just the future but also present caretakers of our world. If each of us can engage in even small acts, they can grow in multitude to create a huge impact.
I am very happy to be involved in such voluntary activities during summer with my friends and it is indeed satisfying.
