German Pavilion “Fields of Ideas” ready for visitors at Expo Milano 2015

More than 20 million visitors expected to visit over the 184 days of the mega event

Dubai, U.A.E: The German Pavilion to Expo Milano 2015, is all set for business as evidenced at the recent media preview conducted for invited Italian and German media representatives. The media personnel were given an exclusive insight into the “Fields of Ideas”, which will  be open to visitors and delegates from May 1.

Pavilion directors presented the invitees with details of the pavilion architecture and exhibition as well as its cultural programme. The German Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 is being organised and run by Messe Frankfurt GmbH.

“Today is a special day for us: the first visitors, participants of the press conference, are visiting the exhibition and our staff are welcoming the first guests – this is a final rehearsal of what we have been working towards, for four years. All those involved are proudly presenting the results of their work,” said Dietmar Schmitz, Commissioner General of the German Pavilion of the ministry responsible for this, the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) at the press conference.

“In the German Pavilion we are showing the many innovations and immense commitment of our country – in politics and research, in civilian society and our strong economy as well as in the cultural and creative scene,” continued Schmitz who is responsible for the German Pavilion.

In its six areas, the “Fields of Ideas” pavilion will present more than 100 thematic stations on the theme of the world exhibition.  The pavilion's construction conveys the country's stance on efficient resource usage. Thanks to the advantages offered by modern steel and membrane construction, the temporary building makes maximum use of available light and uses the minimum of construction material.

In the building of the pavilion 185 employees used 800 tons of steel, 2,500 square metres of wood and an equal number of square metres of membranes. In addition, 700 lamellae were incorporated in the exhibition which separate the various themed areas. If these were joined to one another it would correspond to a length of four kilometres.  

A key design element of the German Pavilion is the “idea seedlings”, stylised plants which sprout up out of the exhibition and form a shadegiving canopy over the pavilion. Upon closer examination these leaves are revealed as incorporating an innovative photovoltaic technology.

More than 170 hosts and hostesses as well as scores of related support personnel including technicians, drivers, protocol staff and press and media attendants will be on call for the 184 days of the Expo. A majority of these are multi-lingual and are specially trained to be able to seamlessly communicate and network with the 20 million expected visitors expected at Expo Milano 2015.
