Exhibition: Urdu Worlds

Ishara Art Foundation, Alserkal Avenue hosts Urdu Worlds, the UAE's first contemporary art exhibition dedicated to the Urdu language until 31 May. Curated by writer Hammad Nasar, the showcase brings together works by Pakistani artist Ali Kazim and Indian talent Zarina as they engage in a visual conversation around the language and how it provides tools to discover an individual's inner world.

The showcase highlights the power of art as a bridge to access the imagination of the artists who may not share a written language. While Zarina's presentation is focused on two bodies of works titled Urdu Proverbs and Home is a Foreign Place, Kazim presents Alphabets, which is like a dictionary of South Asian urban and pastoral landscapes. Together the artists reimagine the role of language and its potential to move worlds.
