Sharjah-UAE: 10 March, 2015 – The final round of the three-stage evaluation process for selecting winners of the second Sharjah Government Communication Award (SGCA 2015) has been completed, Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) announced today.
Under the chairmanship of Ibrahim Al Abed, Director General of the National Media Council, a specially instituted SMC team, as well as an external judging panel comprising industry experts and thought leaders, have reviewed 27 entries that were shortlisted in the second phase of evaluation.
The second SGCA has drawn a total of 75 entries from ministries, federal institutions and local government entities, with many submitting entries to more than one category.
His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of SMC, said: "The award focuses on recognising the different roles and tasks undertaken by government communication departments and on encouraging these departments to compete with one another by constantly improving their working methods, and developing the skills and capabilities of their employees using the best local and international practices, which will certainly benefit the development of government communication in the country in general. "
At a gala ceremony to be held in mid-April, the award will recognise winners in 12 categories, including three for submissions from the GCC region, six for entries from the UAE, and three for Sharjah-based nominations. Some of the key categories include Excellence in Government Communication in GCC, Media Personality of the Year, and Leadership in Media Awards.
The SGCA incentivises government communication professionals to implement best practices in their daily operations, and to proactively contribute ideas for the improvement of their departments, thereby developing efficient communication with Sharjah’s residents.
