Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, 8 February, 2015: Yas Marina Circuit has announced its popular community race TriYAS by Daman’s Activelife on 20th February 2015 is close to selling out with less than 200 places remaining.
Would-be competitors are urged to register quickly or risk missing out, as the circuit unveils brand new additions for TriYAS 2015, including a professional triathlete’s wave or ‘pro field’, which will see 12 elite triathletes competing for first place
Also debuting this year will be the KidsTRI, open to children aged between 12-17 and a female-only category. The UAE’s only twilight triathlon is open to all first time racers, as well as more experienced triathletes.
“At Daman, we are very keen to engage with the community in order to effect positive lifestyle change,” said National Health Insurance Company - Daman CEO, Dr. Michael Bitzer. “As sponsors of TriYAS, a key event in our community fitness calendar, we remain focused on our objective of raising awareness and educating the UAE’s residents on the importance of regular exercise and leading a healthy lifestyle. The new 2015 additions are very exciting and we actively urge people to sign up to challenge themselves in this most testing race.
TriYAS by Daman’s Activelife also includes two distances for adults: the Olympic category, with a 1,500-metre swim, 40-kilometre bike race and 10-kilometre run and the shorter Sprint category, involving a 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike course and 5-kilometre run. One of the best run and safest triathlons in the region, the KidsTRI for younger members of the family allows children to test themselves over a 50-metre swim, 6-kilometre cycle and a 1.5-kilometre run.
Novices and beginners have taken advantage of the hugely popular triathlon training programme run by Haddins Gym, which covers swimming, cycling, running, core exercises and expert tips. Participants are encouraged to share their own personal stories of their training experiences across social media, using the hashtag ‘#TriYAS’ in a bid to spur others on.
Continuing the circuit’s ongoing ‘Big Data’ health audit initiative to benchmark the UAE’s activity habits, all entrants to TriYAS will also have their BMI index and other data measured on site. The data collected will feed into the existing knowledge base gathered at previous Yas Marina Circuit community and fitness events for use in future health-planning strategies.
This year’s TriYAS will also see the return of ‘HealthX’, following the success of the inaugural event in November. A community-oriented forum around health and wellbeing, HealthX is aimed at facilitating better conversations and sharing of ideas amongst practitioners keen to make a difference in community health.
Up to six speakers will make keynote addresses to a privately invited audience on the theme of ‘Personal Performance’ covering psychology, training, coaching, nutrition and personal stories. Confirmed speakers include Dr Caren Diehl, sports psychologist and coach, Pro Trathlete Olivier Godart, Emirati TV Presenter and Soccer School Guru Anas Bukash ,Dr. Mai Al Jaber, board member of Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and social influencer Healthyxjessx HealthX will take place on Thursday, 19th February.
“The fifth edition of TriYAS is back bigger and better than ever,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit. “This year, with the addition of the elite professional field, a female-only category and the introduction of KidsTRI, we have evolved this exciting race further and made it even more inclusive.
“We enjoy very strong community engagement at Yas Marina Circuit and received nearly 200,000 visitors at our wide range of health and fitness events in 2014. TriYAS fits perfectly with our goals of encouraging people to get active and improve their lifestyles and we look forward to welcoming all of the local, regional and international athletes to the circuit,” he added.
