Dubai, UAE, February 7, 2015: Your smart watch parks your car while your smart TV automatically controls your bedroom’s ambient temperature, and every appliance in your home – from the refrigerator to the oven is connected and at your command remotely. This is how innovation will transform the way people live in the near future. The Government Summit in Dubai this year offers a glimpse into this future as it hosts some of the world’s leading companies in innovation.
Organized from February 9 to 11, 2015, under the theme ‘Shaping Future Governments’, the Government Summit will discuss governments of the future as well as the critical changes taking place at the global level in the development of government services. The Summit also serves as a platform to highlight the current international expertise in the field of innovation and how these can be utilized to enable governments to improve the lives of people and make government more effective.
Samsung is one of the success stories in innovation being showcased at the third Government Summit. In one of the key plenary sessions on the first day of the Summit, Boo Keun Yoon, Chief Executive Officer of Samsung Electronics, will speak on the topic, ‘Staying Ahead of the Curve: How Samsung Drives Innovation’.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for inviting Samsung to be a part of the Government Summit. We are honored to be here and excited to have this opportunity to share and learn how innovation can make a difference in governments and businesses around the world. 2015 is the Year of Innovation in UAE. For Samsung, innovation is not just about technological breakthroughs. For us, innovation has to be meaningful. We believe it has to inspire people and help them discover new experiences and create a better future,” Boo Keun Yoon said ahead of the Summit.
Boo Keun Yoon further stated: “Technology is constantly improving, and the pace of innovation is accelerating. We at Samsung see this as more than a challenge; it is an opportunity. Through close collaboration between the private and public sector, we can create more opportunities to enhance the lives of people and to change the world for the better.”
The company that transformed dramatically from noodle trading to inventing the Galaxy Nexus, Samsung’s amazing success story touches every aspect of life and also has a strong Dubai connection. The company’s C&T High Rise Division was closely associated with the construction of Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and the civic pride of the nation.
Every second 20 Samsung devices are placed in the hands of customers, bringing them into the innovation-powered tech-universe. That is nearly 665 million Samsung devices sold only in 2014. Samsung has pledged that in the next two years, 90 per cent of all its products would be internet-enabled. Boo Keun Yoon has predicted that in five years, every piece of Samsung hardware will be internet-enabled device, be it an air purifier or an oven.
In 2038, by the time Samsung, founded by Lee Byung-chul, will mark its 100th anniversary of formation, the company would have touched the lives of a significant majority of the world’s population to the extent that it aims to address the fundamental challenges faced by humanity, including poverty.
The fascinating story of Samsung Electronics, founded in 1969, also serves as an inspiration for emerging entrepreneurs. From producing 12 inch black & white TVs and exporting them to Panama to expanding to all electronics categories, Samsung’s focus on innovation is underlined by its mantra – create the future, lead the world.
Over the years, Samsung has built semiconductors, massive shipping tankers and personal computers before taking the world by storm with its smartphones. With over 160,000 employees, it is one of the world’s largest job creators.
